๐ŸŒ Key US Acquisition and Rebrand Signal Crestbridge's Strategic Ambition

Crestbridge has acquired Wyoming Trust Company (WTC) โ€” Wyoming's first chartered trust company, serving US and international clients for over 30 years โ€” and rebranded globally as Crestbridge Fiduciary.

The move accelerates the firm's US presence, building on a successful six-year joint venture with Wyoming-based Willow Street LLC, which has now concluded as Crestbridge steps out to operate independently in the market.

Also announced: Morgan Alleyn joins as Managing Director of the consolidated Wyoming business. A US attorney with deep expertise in international tax, tax controversy, and cross-border trust and estate structures, Morgan brings exactly the perspective needed to lead the next chapter.

Together, these moves position Crestbridge Fiduciary to deliver seamless cross-border service from both Wyoming and Jersey โ€” consolidating its place as a leading multi-jurisdictional provider for complex, globally dispersed structures.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Heather Tibbo, CEO: "Today's announcement marks a significant milestone... strongly positioning us to anticipate and support the needs of a changing marketplace."

๐Ÿ’ฌ Steve Sokiฤ‡, Chairman: "The acquisition of WTC... is a further illustration of the Crestbridge commitment to the important US market and of its ambition to consolidate its reputation as a global provider to international families."

โœˆ๏ธ ACASS Expands African Footprint with Two New Additions to Managed Fleet

ACASS has added a Boeing Business Jet 2 (BBJ2) and an Embraer Legacy 650 to its managed fleet โ€” both Kenya-based, San Marino-registered (T7) aircraft that will soon be available for global charter.

The move builds on ACASS's long-standing presence in Africa's business aviation market:

โœˆ๏ธ BBJ2 โ€” exceptional range and cabin space, suited to head-of-state travel, executive transport, and large-group intercontinental trips

โœˆ๏ธ Legacy 650 โ€” efficient, comfortable long-range travel with a proven record of reliability and performance

Both aircraft will operate under ACASS's management standards, covering safety, operational efficiency, and service delivery.

"These additions reflect both the continued demand we are seeing in Africa and our commitment to providing flexible, high-quality aircraft management and charter solutions in the region," said Andre Khury, CEO, ACASS.

With decades of experience across the continent, ACASS continues to expand its African offering alongside its global aircraft management, charter, sales and acquisitions, flight crew staffing, and technical support services.

๐Ÿ™๏ธ New York's Pied-ร -Terre Tax: A Trap for the Unwary Cross-Border Owner

From 1 July 2026, New York City's new Article 30-C surcharge hits non-primary residences โ€” and for internationally mobile owners, it's far more than a property tax line item.

In this article for PCD, Alicea Castellanos (Global Taxes LLC) unpacks the traps cross-border families need to navigate:

๐Ÿ“ The surcharge is based on the City's assessed value, not market value or purchase price โ€” condos/co-ops from 4.0โ€“6.5%, class-one homes at 0.8โ€“1.3%

๐Ÿ“ "Just declare it your primary residence" is not a free fix โ€” more days in NYC can trigger New York State/City tax residency, and for non-U.S. individuals, potentially federal residency under the substantial presence test

๐Ÿ“ FBAR, FATCA, FIRPTA and estate tax (Form 706-NA) exposure can all be triggered depending on how the property is funded, held, and eventually sold

๐Ÿ“ The Department of Finance must issue its first notices by 30 August 2026 โ€” with a six-year audit window on primary-residence claims

The message is clear: this is a documentation problem, not a panic problem. Owners need to decide now whether the apartment is personal-use, rental, an estate asset, or a future sale candidate โ€” and align their NY, federal, and treaty position accordingly.

๐Ÿฆ Why Wealthy Families Still Use Private Banks

In an age of low-cost investment platforms and instant access to financial information, why do wealthy families still turn to private banks?

We put that question to Jonathan Benson, Executive Director at EFG Private Bank in London (19 years with the firm), for PCD.

His answer: it's rarely an investment challenge. It's a complexity challenge.

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Wealthy families rarely have an investment challenge; they have a complexity challenge." As wealth grows, so does the need to coordinate investments, liquidity, financing, succession, governance, tax, philanthropy and cross-border matters โ€” often all at once.

๐Ÿ’ฌ On performance: "Performance matters, but it is seldom the sole consideration." The real goal is aligning capital with family objectives and building resilience across generations.

๐Ÿ’ฌ On what sets private banks apart, Jonathan points to three things: access (specialist investment opportunities, tailored credit, global banking), integration (bringing multiple disciplines under one relationship), and continuity (trusted advisers who understand both the finances and the family).

๐Ÿ’ฌ His bottom line: "Private banking is less about managing money and more about managing complexity."

As family wealth becomes more international, entrepreneurial and multi-generational, that combination of expertise, access and trusted partnership isn't going anywhere.

In the latest installment of our Next Gen series, David Bell sits down with Elena Camilla Myers, Business Development Executive at Prism The Gift Fund and incoming Co-Chair of the PCD Next Gen Committee.

Elena explains what sets Prism apart:

๐Ÿ”น A UK-registered charity with one mission โ€” maximizing the flow of funds into the charitable sector
๐Ÿ”น A donor-advised fund provider, offering individuals, families, groups and corporates a cost, time and tax-efficient alternative to setting up a private foundation
๐Ÿ”น A structure built for impact, without the administrative burden that often comes with running a foundation

The conversation goes on to cover:

โœ… Why advisors are increasingly leading philanthropy conversations with clients, not just responding to them
โœ… How liquidity events and succession planning create natural openings for giving
โœ… Prism's dual-qualified structure, enabling US and UK taxpayers to claim tax relief in both jurisdictions on a single gift
โœ… Why UK culture has historically shied away from talking about wealth and giving โ€” and how that's changing
โœ… What makes the PCD NextGen community valuable for early-career professionals in the sector

"We can help them with proper advice that will be suitable for their client."

For advisors who've never really considered Jersey โ€” or looked at it briefly before moving on โ€” Locate Jersey is offering something different: a genuine concierge service that works behind the scenes so advisors can give clients the right guidance at the right time.

"Meeting people in person is the key to establishing trust."

At the PCD London Conference 2026, our Hong Kong panel explored why Asia's premier financial centre remains firmly open for business โ€” from record IPO volumes to the resilience of its common law framework for succession planning.

The session was proudly sponsored by META OCTAV, and co-founder Cรฉcile Civiale Vuillier shared the trustee's perspective live on stage. Her colleague Katerina V., founding partner of META OCTAV in Switzerland and Hong Kong, echoes the theme in a recent clip โ€” noting the growing number of European clients choosing Hong Kong as a regulated, credible base for asset structuring, and the value of META OCTAV's dual footprint in bridging European and Asian wealth markets.

The full panel discussion โ€” covering redomiciliation, succession law, and why the "Hong Kong is closed" narrative doesn't hold up โ€” is explored in our latest article.

Ahead of the PCD London Summer Dinner, Finance Isle of Man and Capital International hosted an exclusive roundtable with a select number of guests at Drapers' Hall โ€” bringing together private client advisers to explore why the Isle of Man is fast becoming the relocation and structuring jurisdiction of choice for UK high net worth clients.

The conversation opened with a simple question: how many advisers in the room had a client raise international relocation in the last 12 months?

Almost every hand went up.

How many had mentioned the Isle of Man specifically? Far fewer โ€” and that gap set the tone for the evening.

Key takeaways from the discussion:

โ†’ 0% standard corporate tax rate, no capital gains tax, no inheritance tax โ€” but the headlines undersell fifty years of institutional depth behind them
โ†’ The FSA actively engages with firms from the earliest stage of establishment, unlike the FCA โ€” translating to lower uncertainty and faster onboarding
โ†’ Two-thirds of all new international trust-based pension schemes set up in the last decade have landed in the Isle of Man, the only jurisdiction regulating both scheme and administrator together
โ†’ Twice-daily Dublin connections mean residents can travel internationally without routing through Heathrow โ€” a real advantage for managing day-count under the Statutory Residence Test
โ†’ Genuine planning opportunities for business owners ahead of a sale โ€” but only with proper lead time and coordinated UK/island advice. As one fiduciary specialist put it: "The ones who try to manage it themselves, or come to us after the fact, almost always end up in difficulty."

Demand is shifting too โ€” from non-doms who left ahead of the 2024 reforms to entrepreneurs and pension holders in the ยฃ3mโ€“ยฃ5m range recalculating exposure ahead of the proposed IHT changes. And interest is broadening globally, from South African and Hong Kong families to growing wealth in Kenya.

One banking representative summed up the island's underrated advantage: a mature, connected advisory community where introductions happen fast and structures get built without friction.

Boards don't fail because they lack intelligence. They fail because they lack feedback.

At the PCD London Conference 2026, Gregory Perdon (Charles Stanley) made the case that AI's most valuable boardroom application isn't decision-making โ€” it's decision auditing.

Navy SEALs run after-action reviews. Pilots use crew resource management. Surgical teams work from checklists. Feedback is built into the process.

Boards and investment committees? Rarely.

Gregory's keynote identified four traps that quietly undermine even the most "serious" discussions:

โ†’ Narrative over evidence โ€” a good story (Apple's "Start with Why") can feel like proof when it's really n=1
โ†’ First-idea fixation โ€” debating yes/no on the first proposal instead of generating real alternatives
โ†’ Suppressed dissent โ€” Challenger's O-ring warnings show what happens when challenge exists but isn't heard
โ†’ Vague uncertainty โ€” the Bay of Pigs "fair chance" that was really a 25% shot

His proposal: record decision-making meetings, transcribe them, and use an approved in-house LLM โ€” with proper oversight โ€” to analyse how the discussion actually unfolded. Not to replace judgement, but to make it visible.

As Gregory put it: "systematic feedback can be gold dust for edge-seekers or fool's gold for theatregoers."
