Day 2 of Finals' weekend kicking off shortly (10 am), with the Triples and Seven-up singles, followed by the Veterans (postponed from yesterday) and the 3, 2, 1 pairs finishing things off this afternoon.

Congratulations to the winners so far, and best of luck to all today's competitors.

Thanks go to the markers, the umpire, photographers, raffle-ticket sellers and all those that donated raffle prizes.

A complete list of results will be posted in the clubhouse at the conclusion of the competitions, and don't forget the presentations evening coming up on Friday.

If your coming down to see some bowling, why not round off the day with some music, as we have Dolly Dagger playing at approx. 3:30pm. Should be good!

Thanks go to The Brighton Bootleggers for last Sunday's music (sorry, couldn't make it, bowling!)

This Sunday (14th September) we have the return of the ever-popular Gastric Band at the usualish time of 3:30. Come on down.

The following weekend (20th and 21st) we have our club finals. The schedule will very much depend on who gets through to what so watch this space for the order of play once all the finalists are known.

There is the Ladies Singles final being played this coming Sunday to accommodate a previous long-standing engagement so come along for that for some good entertainment to whet your appetite (and hope the weather is better than it is now).

Some excellent Blues last Sunday, with the very entertaining Blue Jukes, great musicianship, audience participation and free Oreos™!

Coming this week, the Brighton Bootleggers (in Hove Actually), with one or two familiar faces on board, playing eclectic pop, rock and contraband harmonies. If you're wondering what that all means, come on down on Sunday and find out! They'll be on at around 3;30.

28/08/2025

Thanks to Chasing Zoe for providing the entertainment last Sunday. More new sounds for us this weekend with The Blue Jukes with some good old foot-tappin' blues.

Bank Holiday Monday saw our Open triples competition taking place in glorious sunshine (unusual for August bank holiday Monday!) with a total of 11 team taking part, and general consensus was it was a great success. The winners were our visitors from Portslade with H&K taking the next 10 positions! Runners-up the team of Paul Wilson, third, the Hancock/Holliday triple and fourth Bell, Lewis & Wright (not a firm of local solicitors).

Thanks to Viv and the backroom boys for putting on a great day. We may do this again!

Round-up of our National Finals representation next week, following the Top Club closing stages! Best of luck to our team.

Another excellent afternoon in the company of The Acoustics last weekend, and this weekend more acoustic entertainment in the form of Chasing Zoe, an acoustic duo/trio giving us music from the 60s to present day, with the music of The Who, Amy Winehouse, The Stereophonics & many more.

13/08/2025

Thanks to The Unusual Suspect for his entertainment last Sunday, though our sympathies somewhat as an important bowls day meant that at times his audience was on the small side! We'll try not to let that happen again!

Coming up this week, the welcome return of The Acoustics, with their assorted set of well known hits to get you up and dancing.

Onto the bowls; the Sunday afternoon music coincided with the latest round of the Bill Hawkins trophy, where we were playing Peacehaven. Unfortunately, Peacehaven got the better of us on this occasion in a see-saw match which was in the balance up until the end.

Sunday evening saw our team play their last-16 Top Club match against Dorchester. Another match which could have gone either way, with Hove & Kingsway winning the two-wood but losing the four-wood, then winning the pairs but losing the triples, leaving it all on the fours, which was tied at 16 all going into the last end. The good news is we won by one shot, and are now bound for the National Finals in Leamington Spa, with the last-8 match on Friday 29th August.

Last but by no means least, the Brighton Hove & District League reached it's climax last night. Going into the final round of games Hove & Kingsway were top on shots difference, level on points with Mackie. Hove & Kingsway did what they needed to do, winning 10-0 (against Woodingdean B) with an impressive 78-34 shots scoreline. Mackie obliged by only winning 8-2 (against Peqacehaven), so Hove & Kingsway are promoted as champions with 84 points to Mackie's 82. Division one awaits!

Congratulations on a(nother) successful promotion campaign to all who took part in the league this season, and thanks to Davie for his organisation.

07/08/2025

Full House Rock were very well received last Sunday, if you missed them, you missed out! (it's not as if there was much else going on around town).

A return this week of the Unusual Suspect who appeared earlier in the year and was very popular, playing blues, rock and pop tunes. He'll be starting around 3:30 as usual.

Bowls news, the league team are still top of the table after an 8-2 victory at The Drive on Tuesday (not an easy place to get a result!), leaving just one game to go, home to Woodingdean this coming Tuesday, to see if we can achieve Davie's pre-season prediction (Division 2 Champions)!

Before that, on Sunday evening 6:00pm, the team has the final pre-finals round of the National Top Club, which is against Dorchester and takes place at Banister Park BC, Eastleigh, Hampshire. Closer to home on Sunday afternoon (2:00pm) we play Peacehaven in the Bill Hawkins Trophy (one rink home, one away).

Every success gentlemen!

A reminder that also on Sunday the greens will be closed until approx. 1:00pm for scarifying.

Further bowls news...

Our team won their last-32 Top Club* match last night, beating Basingstoke Town 3-2 at the neutral green of Chichester.

After losing the 2 singles matches (21-12 and 14-13) the pairs pulled one back, winning 19-10. The equaliser was scored by the fours, leaving it all on the Triples for the decider. After being 16-16 after 16 ends, it couldn't have been much closer, but a three on the 17th end all but clinched victory for our team.

Congratulations gentlemen!

This takes the team through to the last 16*, where we will play Dorchester, Dorset (again at a neutral green) for the right to play during finals week in Leamington.

*For info for those not familiar with the competition, teams of 11 play 2-wood singles, 4-wood single, pairs triples and fours. We're now one of the top 16 teams in the country.

30/07/2025

Let's start with the bowls news this week!
Congratulations to our TRIPLE county champion Vinnie Minter, who on Monday won the two-wood singles title to go with his Under-24 Pairs and Under-24 Singles titles last week. (You'll remember these finals were delayed from finals weekend as he was representing England under-18s in Scotland).

In league news, our mixed team on recording their best result last week in the Hove League - a 9-1 win over Preston. A few new players joining the team this season, congratulations to all involved.

Another 9-1 victory last night for or Brighton, Hove and District League team, over Mackie, which saw us replace them at the top of the table with two matches left in the season. Well done guys!

We were pleased to host Highworth Bowls Club on Saturday, as part of their mystery weekend - they didn't know where they were playing until the coach stopped outside!

OK, now onto music!!

Our thanks as always to Table 12, particularly fitting their performance in early to accommodate the football final.

This week, we have Full House Rock, a new name for us, playing Rock and pop covers with two lead guitarists. Should be good! 3pm start as usual (ish).
