Digital Champions provide friendly, informal support to help people build confidence with everyday digital tasks, such as using smartphones and tablets, accessing online services, staying connected with family and friends, and making the most of the internet safely.

Village halls are at the heart of their communities and can play an important role in helping people access local digital support. Community Action are looking to recruit volunteers across west Northumberland as we’ve had requests for support but currently have no local volunteers available.

A fund to support eligible households who are struggling with the cost of heating oil has just been launched in Cumberland.

The price of kerosene – the fuel used for heating oil - has been especially affected by the recent conflict in the Middle East and has risen faster than other fuels such as petrol and gas.

The Government recently announced a targeted support package for low-income families which is to be distributed by local councils.

We can now confirm that its Heating Oil Support Fund is open for applications from eligible low‑income households who use heating oil as their primary source of heating. Cumberland’s share of the national support package is £370,000.

Help with heating oil costs through Heating Oil Support provided by the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).
