We're looking for student staff for the new academic year. Working in our social and bar areas with an excellent rate of pay!

Working Patterns are flexible, however applicants are advised to remain flexible with availability and will be expected to be available at least two Wednesdays per month.

𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗖𝟬𝟮

Our fabulous new social spaces in Student Central - SC02 - have received more praise this week with a double award whammy.

Last night, Sycamore Square Group Ltd - the design firm behind the £2 million refurbishment of SC02 - was Highly Commended at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber Awards 2025. SC02, which comprises a vibrant social and study space, games area, garden hideaway, Brew & Co kitchen and BelowOne bar, was shortlisted in the Retro Fit of the Year category which honours renovations, as opposed to new builds.

The refurbishment project transformed a series of tired, dark, and underused bars into a vibrant, inclusive and accessible recreational hub – featuring a new bar, café, kitchens, games rooms, media room, breakout spaces, and flexible activity zones.

Last week, BelowOne secured Best Bar None accreditation for 2025/26, a scheme run by the National Union of Students (NUS) Charity which recognises licensed premises that demonstrate a commitment to safety, inclusivity, and student engagement.

The University of Bradford has secured the Best Bar None (BBN) Accreditation for 2025/26, a national accreditation scheme which has highlighted the steps taken to provide a safe, inclusive space, championing student engagement.

Assessors praised the student supervisors for their rare level of confidence and capability, calling it the strongest staff team seen across all student unions and universities this year.

The BBN scheme, backed by the NUS, recognises venues that go above and beyond in promoting public safety, staff training, and community wellbeing.

The new SC02 social space in Student Central has received glowing praise from a national body responsible for assessing licensed premises, who described the area as “an amazing provision," while the team who run it are credited as going “way above the call of duty.”

While we won't know the results until July, the assessor was so impressed with the venue, he kindly sent an extract of his report in advance. And there is even a suggestion that Bradford could even become the blueprint for other universities to follow.

The assessor, who is the Business Development Consultant for the NUS Charity trading team, wrote: “A tenacious and imaginative ethos truly captures what the commercial team at the University of Bradford have achieved over the last twelve months.

"𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 (𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝘁𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻."

"From the interactions witnessed with students, it is clear the service users not only respect the facilities, but hold the team in extremely high regard and demonstrates a level of trust with the premises that is rarely seen in similar settings. The premises' unique approach with handling a challenging climate is admirable, with student staff receiving a skillset for life after graduating.

The assessor noted how successfully we have tailored and operate the “Ask for Angela” scheme, in which individuals can discretely seek support from bar staff if they feel unsafe or threatened, as well as the training provided to the staff.

Discussions are now underway for other student unions/university facilities nationwide to learn from Bradford as an example of best practice, with talks of hosting training for others on campus.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 🙌🎉

From surprise wins that had jaws on the floor to epic awkward acceptance speeches, Fridays awards brought all the good vibes. There were laughs, a few happy cheers, and maybe even a missing certificate we completely didn’t forget about! We’re glad all those in attendance throughly enjoyed themselves!

This year marks the first year of SC02 being open, and what a year it’s been! From hosting Freshers Week in September, planning RAG Week in November, Varisty afters in March, and even hosting some socials….and we’re already buzzing for what September 2025 will bring!

It’s the final week of term, and SC02 is on its final run of events and activities! We’ll be closing on Friday 9th May until the start of the 2025/26 academic year

Don’t forget our final event of the year this Friday! The MVP Awards and pre-social. All welcome to join the social from 7pm in Escape with awards starting from 10pm before we dance the night away with music chosen by YOU! 🙌
