To celebrate Craft Festival's return to Cardigan Castle, I caught up with some of the makers who will be joining us in September. ⁠

Meet Find a Maker member and potter Linda Unsworth, who I sat down with in beautiful pottery in the foothills of the Preseli Mountains. We talked about her early life in Communist Czechoslovakia and her post revolution travels. We also talked about her Qigong and Kung Fu practise and how it influences her ceramic work. ⁠

We have so many outreach projects to share at Craft Festival Wales / Gwyl Grefft Cymru Sept 11-13 at Castell Aberteifi.Cardigan Castle

From learning new skills to exhibiting at Craft Festival Wales at Cardigan Castle. ⁠

Six weeks across the Summer, young people from Futureworks, in partnership with Jobs Growth Wales Plus, have been working with Rosy and Spike from exploring printmaking, textile design and printing onto clothing.⁠
⁠
From mushrooms and natural forms to favourite bands, they’ve created their own printed T-shirts, bags and hoodies, as well as two collaborative banners.⁠
⁠
Many began unsure whether they were “artists”. Six weeks later, they’ve created work they’re proud to see exhibited at Craft Festival Wales. ⁠
⁠
We’re delighted to support this brilliant project, helping young people discover new creative skills, build confidence and see where a future in making might take them.⁠
⁠

Chwe wythnos ar draws yr Haf, mae pobl ifanc o Futureworks, mewn partneriaeth â Twf Swyddi Cymru Plws, wedi bod yn gweithio gyda Rosy a Spike o Walden Arts, gan archwilio gwneud printiau, dylunio tecstilau ac argraffu ar ddillad.⁠

A lobster-inspired Craft Festival love story…with a very French twist! ⁠

When Kitsch n Sync performed at Craft Festival Wales last year, they fell in love with the festival and with one particular maker: Manda from whose wonderful heirloom textile toys include a rather dashing French Lobster, complete with stripy T-shirt and jaunty curly moustache. Ooo là là!⁠
⁠
Inspired by their new favourite crustacean, the Kitsch n Sync gals went away and created a brand-new walkabout act: Les Lobsters Français. Think stripy T-shirts, claws, curly moustaches, berets and French jazz…⁠
⁠
They debuted Les Lobsters Français at Craft Festival Bovey Tracey and now they’re coming home to Craft Festival Wales, 11–13 September for their first performance at Cardigan Castle!⁠
⁠
Who knew one textile lobster could inspire so much mischief? Well... I'm honestly not that surprised, there is always a healthy does of mischief around Treefall's stand. ⁠

Craft can open doors.⁠

This year, we’re delighted to be working with QEST, Novus Gower and HMP Parc on a brilliant creative project supporting prison learners to explore craft, creativity and future opportunities.⁠
⁠
Working with designer-maker Justyna Medon, learners have explored textile design, printing and printmaking, developing their own ideas into commercially viable products for fashion and interiors.⁠
⁠
Along the way, they’ve built practical skills, confidence and an understanding of design, entrepreneurship and the creative industries.⁠
⁠
We’re proud to be exhibiting selected work at Craft Festival Wales, giving the learners the opportunity to know that their creativity will be showcased in a professional craft setting.⁠
⁠
A powerful reminder that creativity can build confidence, develop skills and open doors to new possibilities.⁠

Throughout Craft Festival Wales at Cardigan Castle, families can dive into FREE drop-in Children’s Workshops in the Craft Lab, a lively creative space where imaginations run wild.⁠
⁠
You’ll find the Craft Lab below the Kitchen Garden, next to the Children’s Play Area, making it the perfect stop for young makers.⁠
⁠
Expect colour, creativity and a little bit of magic with plenty of hands-on activities. There’ll be silliness, bubbles and magical surprises with the wonderfully mischievous Mr Jon Jon, along with spellbinding theatre with Hijinx and Kitsch'n'Sync theatre and storytelling with Bard, Ceri Phillips.⁠

Friday welcomes visits from local schools, while Saturday and Sunday are open for families to drop in and join the fun. Just pop in and get making! (Closed for a breather from 1-2pm!)⁠

Accompanied Children up to 18 years are FREE.⁠
