Today was our last tapestry workshop with Shenley Welcomes
It was so wonderful spending time with this group, watching them build in confidence in craft and conversation. A special thank you to Rich who leads the group and is so welcoming. And Tina Francis for her expertise, patience, encouragement, and laughter.

During the past three months over 40 participants, all from different walks of life have taken part in these workshops at Shenley Court Hall and Oddingley Hall (West Heath). The work was inspired by our tapestry at Selly Manor and its intriguing connection to a tapestry at National Trust - Packwood House

In May next year we will exhibit everybody's creations at the Rest House on Bournville Village Green.

Project funded by William A Cadbury Charitable Trust

Tomorrow is Martinmas, a significant date in the Tudor period that marked the traditional beginning of winter.

*SPOILER* It was not all tinsel and figgy pudding - it was the main day to slaughter your pigs and other livestock. This was to preserve meat for the winter (smoking, drying, or salting) and also a time for feasting on the fresh meat that couldn't be saved.

After all that slaughter, tudors enjoyed plays, games, and the selection of a 'Lord of Misrule' (he was in charge over the Christmas period and got up to all sorts).

The 'forty days of St. Martin' was the season of Advent (aka gearing up for the Christmas season). This was also the traditional time for job hunting at 'hiring fairs' where servants would go to find new employment (just in case you wanted to do something other than slaughter livestock).
