What 25 years in flowers has taught me — #01 🌿

The prettiest flower isn’t always the right flower.
A mood board can show the colour palette. It can’t show the heat, humidity, length of the event or whether we’ll be able to get near the stand for a water change.
By day three, hot lights and limited maintenance will test even the toughest stems. So before any flower makes the final list, I’m thinking about the job it needs to do — not just how it looks on day one.

Earlier this year for the Small Luxury Hotels of the World IN-house event at Howe London, the brief was to bring spring indoors — naturally.

Nothing too structured. Nothing overly styled.

We worked with layers of seasonal flowers, plants, moss and woodland textures, creating arrangements that felt as though they had grown into the space rather than simply been placed there.

Howe London was the perfect setting — aged brick, beautiful textiles, antique furniture and so much character. The flowers needed to sit comfortably amongst it all, not compete with it.

This was a collaboration with Carsten, from the initial ideas through to designing and styling everything together on the day. Always one of my favourite people to work alongside — lots of ideas, lots of tweaking, and somehow it all comes together.
