For a lady who loved her garden, her greenhouse and her pheasants.
With just a couple of hours’ notice, I was asked to create a farewell tribute for Hazel.
Very little time to think. Very little time to plan.
But somehow, when you create with both your head and your heart, the flowers seem to know what to say.
Zinnias, lavender, and viburnum from my own garden, and added the very last flower from my ‘Together Forever’ rose, a flower that somehow felt too meaningful not to include.
The base was made with Hazel’s own string tin, something I was given when her greenhouse was emptied and the finished tribute was placed on her greenhouse table in my greenhouse, sitting on her terracotta pot.
Her own things.
Flowers from my garden.
Pheasant feathers.
And a final flower from a rose called Together Forever.
It was only an hour of creating, but every single moment was filled with thought, love and emotion.
Sometimes the most beautiful farewells aren’t the ones that are planned weeks in advance. Sometimes they are the ones made quietly, with raw emotion, knowing that every little detail is the last thing you can give someone.
