Moss wreath bases... A topic I've been chatting about in my recent workshops.

As a florist specialising in natural materials, I've long preferred moss, but I'm starting to wonder if it's truly sustainable. When something becomes a trendy 'eco-friendly' option, it often leads to over-farming, which isn't eco-friendly at all. I'm questioning whether moss is the best choice moving forward. Whether to use something else or just a chunky willow base will suffice.

This year, I've ordered less moss and plan to avoid using it in my creations after mid- December. In the meantime, I've been experimenting with bracken as a substitute, using it to create chunkier bases with less moss. You can see the bracken in these photos - could this be the way forward? What are your thoughts as a fellow florist or someone attending a wreath workshop?

First festive wreath delivery to today. A barn full of beautiful trees & now wreaths, right next to the new . Definitely worth a visit to get into the festive spirit.

All these wreaths are made with foliage from North Aston farm & dried English flowers. Handmade with natural techniques & bound with twine, infact they are 100% compostable (apart from the velvet ribbon which can be reused)
