Our next local charity we are raising funds for is Mantalk. A phenomenal charity making a big difference in the lives of our locals.

Here is more info on Mantalk:

M.A.N.T.A.L.K is a men’s mental-health and su***de-awareness charity based in Blairgowrie, set up by local men who wanted to do something practical to support other men in their community.

What MANTALK does
Their main aim is to get men talking, particularly men who might otherwise keep problems and feelings to themselves. They provide a relaxed, confidential and non-judgemental environment where men can come along whether they're struggling with their mental health or simply want some company and a reason to get out.

They organise:

Weekly group nights – currently Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm at Wellmeadow Boxing Club.

Outdoor activities and adventures, including hillwalking and trips such as Ben Nevis.

Social activities designed to give men something positive to look forward to and help build friendships and confidence.

An important part of their approach is that you don't have to be suicidal, have a mental-health problem, or even talk about anything personal to attend. The idea is to make that first step as easy as possible and provide a place where people can meet others without judgement.

MANTALK is also a registered Scottish charity (SC052183)

Happy to Chat, Happy to Listen is another local charity we are delighted to be raising funds for this year. Please read on to find out more info from them.

Happy to Chat, Happy to Listen is a local charity organisation working to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health and su***de.

Our Bench Trail is one of the ways we bring people together. Alongside the trail, we currently have five regular drop-ins, providing welcoming, safe spaces where people can come along, chat, listen, connect and find support. Our work covers a range of areas including social isolation, mental health, recovery and wellbeing — because sometimes simply having someone to talk to can make all the difference.

We also believe that mental health education should start early. We deliver Mental Health First Aid courses for community groups and businesses, helping people recognise the signs that someone may be struggling and giving them the confidence to have those important conversations.

Our work also takes us into local schools. Working alongside First Aid Perthshire to deliver Mini Medics First Aid and Mental Health First Aid sessions in primary schools, primarily supporting P6 and P7 pupils. Last year, we were fortunate to visit Blairgowrie High School, delivering Youth Mental Health First Aid to S3 students, and we are delighted that dates have already been agreed for the coming school year.

We believe mental health is just as important as physical health — yet there is still a divide between the two. We want to help change that by making conversations about mental health as normal, accessible and accepted as conversations about physical health.
Our 24-hour Walkathon is a great example of what we are all about. Yes, it involves walking for 24 hours, but the walking is only part of the story. Talking, connection, friendship and community are at the heart of it. It creates opportunities for people to walk together, talk together, check in with one another and remind ourselves that none of us has to face things alone.

As we continue to grow, we are looking for more trustees and volunteers to join us. Whether you can offer time, skills, ideas, experience or simply a willingness to get involved, we'd love to hear from you.

Connecting communities, starting conversations and making mental health matter.

This year we are also raising funds for Women's Walk and Talk

Here is some information on this great group.

The Walk & Talk Group was started in June 2021, the aim being to offer a peer support group network to women in the local and wider community.

Meetings are held on a Thursday evening between 6.45pm – 9pm at Nest, Wellmeadow, Blairgowrie. Members can come along on a regular basis or just pop in when time suits and the welcome is always the same. There are members who have always lived locally and others who are new to the area and were looking for a way to connect with like-minded women and get involved in the local community. Also all ages are welcome which adds diversity to the group.

A question often asked is “What do you do at your meetings”? - the answer is there is always chat & cake but also we enjoy crafts, quizzes, games and even the odd Murder Mystery and when the weather is favourable a pleasant evening walk can be enjoyed and we have also had interesting guest speakers at our meetings.

Outings are also organised and have included theatre trips, concerts, bowling, meals out etc and recently a car Treasure hunt was a fun challenge.

We also get involved in local events and recently attended the Town Event which profiles local groups and clubs. Some of our members took part in the Walkathon on 2nd August and enjoyed the “walk & talk” for a good cause. Helping at the Beaver Run is also on the calendar as is possibly helping out at the Blairgowrie Highland Games.

To help with funding we ran a very successful charity shop recently and will be doing the marshalling at the Blueberry Picking in August and October. Another fund raiser we have planned is a Fashion Show in Blairgowrie Town hall on 29th October and we are all busy at the moment with this project, so please ladies put this date in your diary, come along and support us and have a fun night out.

Whatever else we are doing there is always time to talk. If you want to talk about anything special you can involve the whole group or if it’s a one to one that you need that is also available. There is always friendship and understanding to go along with the cuppa and cake.

We hope to share some information from the charities we are raising funds for this year, and the great work they do.

The following is from CHAS. Our thanks to them for all they do.

Children's Hospices Across Scotland, or CHAS as we are also known, support children with life shortening conditions and their families, across Scotland.

We are the only charity providing palliative care for children in Scotland.

We have 2 hospices, Rachel House is in Kinross and Robin House is in Balloch and we have 4 CHAS at Home teams, with one of these specialised nursing teams being based in Inverness, providing
unwavering care to families in the Highlands.

Every week, three children in Scotland die from an incurable illness. Three families hear the words no parent should ever hear. Three worlds fall apart. We believe no one should face the death of their child alone. And with you, we will not accept a system that leaves families without real choice.

That’s why in April 2026 we launched our More Than a Hospice Appeal. We need to raise £20m to make sure that the right care is there for families, when they need it, and where they need it. This is a once-in-a-generation chance to redesign how Scotland cares for children who will die young. Of the £20 million, £17 million will rebuild Rachel House, £2 million will renew Robin House, and £1
million will strengthen the support we provide in homes and communities across Scotland.

As a nation, we can choose something better. And with your help, we will.
• Transform our hospices, bringing them to a truly world class standard for today’s children and families,
and those of the future.
• Make it possible for more children to receive end of life care at home, when that is what families want.
• Strengthen partnerships with the NHS, so the same expert, compassionate care follows each child - in
hospital, in a hospice, or at home - with dignity, continuity and kindness.

This is about giving families real choice: to be at home, in a hospice, or in hospital, knowing that wherever they are, they are loved, supported, and not alone. Because no one should face the death of their child alone.

This is Scotland caring for its children. Together, we are More Than a Hospice.

So, after yesterday’s slightly heated debate……(please read our response on the original post), the question we’re asking tonight is:-

“Is a buff enough?” or is it a case of “Bling is king”?

Please let us know!

Thumbs up 👍 if a buff is enough

At our most recent meeting we decided, due to sustainability and reducing wastage reasons, a buff is enough 😀. We won't be handing out medals this year but every runner will receive a buff and a delicious buffet and the winners will receive prizes and plaques.

We can't wait to see you on the day. Keep up the training, it will be worth it! 🏃‍♂️

This is a challenging, hilly route (plenty of downhill too, we promise!) with a well deserved buffet at the finish 🥳 (that means cake, lots of cake! 🍰🍰🍰)
