B00GAL00 / UPTOWN INSPIRATIONS ✌️ an early gem from Mikey Dread’s groundbreaking Dread at the Controls show on 1970’s JBC. A brilliant station audio engineer, Mikey took the controls and made history: staying back after work and experimenting with the equipment creating the first national radio program to play all raw roots reggae and deep dub, ditching the bland foreign pop that dominated playlists back then even in Jamaica.
Live mixing, real-time echoes, tape delays, sirens, custom jingles (straight from King Tubby’s lab), and that infectious dread vibe — he turned the radio into a street sound system!
