It's been five years 🫨

We can’t believe that it has been five years today since the opening of City of a Thousand Trades!

In this ballet, the story of how our home city of Birmingham became known as the City of a Thousand Trades is told through dance.

We had so much fun performing this ballet for audiences in Birmingham and London back in 2021.

Ahead of performing The Green Table next week, we spoke to Julia Seiber Boyd, whose mother Lilla Bauer was a principal dancer for Ballets Jooss.

In this video, Julia talks to us about how the role of The Young Girl in The Green Table was created specifically for her mother, and why performing this ballet in 2026 is as timely as it was back in 1932, when it first premiered.

The Green Table forms part of our repertory for Sir Peter Wright Centenary (Thursday 18 June) and 20th-Century Masterpieces (Friday 19 and Saturday 20 June). Book your tickets to see this rarely-performed masterpiece before it’s too late: https://bit.ly/4e4I6bT
