Hi! How are you doing? What have you been up to?

Me? Well, I saw out the season at Leicester City FC, which wasn't a great deal of fun (relegation) but had the chance to run a couple of different rooms for them, I've looked after racegoers at Wolverhampton and Uttoxeter racecourses with, hopefully, more dates to follow and we've got two more games at Aston Villa!

Now, I've got a favour to ask. Over on Wedding Butler (the main focus now) I get around 100-150 views per post. Now, if everybody who saw those posts hit share, just once, we'd probably get more like 25,000 impressions and 1250 views. If half of you did it, that's 12,00/620

So please, could you go to wedding butler either on Facebook or Instagram, spot a good post and just hit share. that's all, nothing more

DECADES of Wedding Fair experience!
You've got to move with the times and keep reinventing...

Back to the world of Wedding Fairs next month…
and yes, I’m already polishing my “I promise I’m not here to trap you into a mailing list” smile.

I’ve been doing these fairs for decades, and the game has changed — so I changed with it. No more chasing email addresses or unleashing a seven‑part follow‑up saga. Now I simply say, “Find me on social media when you fancy,” and let couples wander in at their own pace.

It feels lighter. Freer. And frankly, far less admin‑goblin energy.

So tell me — is this the better way, or am I meant to bring back the clipboard of doom?

I’ll reveal my next fair this evening. Sharpen your pencils. Or don’t. I’m not collecting them anymore.

I'll never forget this wedding day. I'm incredibly proud of it, but I'm also still a little annoyed too

Burns night wedding. Piper. Haggis.

The hotel "Wedding planners" didn't think to ask the couple about the address to the haggis, nor did they suggest it.

That's why you use seasoned, experienced, professionals. Ones with imagination.

I also loved the AI take on how it went down! In reality, I looked around the wedding for the most Scottish guest. We had great fun with it - he did the traditional address, I used a translation into English!

I've been exhibiting at wedding fairs for probably 25 or 30 years. I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I'm still astonished by what I see from other suppliers!

Standing behind tables expecting visitors to come to them
Looking bored
Boring, predictable displays
No energy
No interaction

And my biggest peeve? Leaving early!

We're mostly self employed at wedding fairs, nobody is forcing us to be there, and yet...

If you're wondering why I would care how others choose to exhibit, it's because it affects everyone. If there's a lack of spark in a room, visitors feel it, and it can make a whole fair worthless.

I've been around long enough to make the most of every fair, even poorly attended ones (that's when you network hard and get promo pics!), but wedding suppliers generally - do better.

It's possible I spend too much time playing with ai....

Working as The Wedding Butler I'm often asked if I'm a toastmaster. I'm not a toastmaster (although I fill the role). The difference ( one of them!) is that toastmasters learn from toastmasters who learned from toastmasters... so nothing has evolved

I learned from me, from my experiences, from those around me.

This is how ai represents the difference. What do you think?

🎵We've come a long long way together 🎵

I've not posted anything on this page in quite some time, but despite retiring from DJing, the Silverball brand lives on.

In 1988 I fancied DJing, bought the kit bit by bit and started. Initially it was the usual - 18ths, family parties etc, then I moved into weddings, and found that I was really good at them!
Family discos at a tennis club in Woking changed my style, then came bouncy castles as Silverball Bounce was created, and at the same time Tasha started Silverball Kids

Now it's Wedding Butler alongside my freelance hospitality work, and Silverball Country with my country music partner Francesca.

Don't worry, I'm going to keep posting here, I've got 35 years of memories and stories that I want to write down.

Today is (apparently) ,

Although I have now hung up my headphones, I couldn't be more proud of everything that I achieved in 35 years as a DJ, for parties, Weddings, Fetes, special events and even Hospital Radio. I have spent most of my life helping people to celebrate landmark events and and giving people a good time. Many gigs stand out in my mind, although DJing the after parties at Millport Country Music Festival in 2019 was an absolute career highlight (we were even on the festival line up posters!)

I now carry on that career, but as Wedding Butler, and taking care of brides and grooms on their most special day is absolutely the best job in the world!

Thank you to all who have been on this journey with me, thank you to those who have worked under the Silverball brand, and a big shout out to all the DJs who have, like me, loaded the speakers into the van at 1am in the pouring rain!
