He’s now halfway through the Advanced module, and over the last few months we’ve really been working on refining his technique, building confidence and getting everything to the point where it feels natural rather than forced.
That work is starting to show outside the studio too. Andrew’s been playing regularly on radio and has now landed himself a residency, giving him the chance to keep developing in a proper live environment.
He’s doing a really good job, and with the way things are progressing, it wouldn’t be surprising to see club opportunities starting to come his way before too long.
One of the things we want DJ Gym students to understand is that learning the technical side is only part of it. As they progress, we also want to help create a pathway into actually playing out.
Through our connection with London Sound Academy, students can have opportunities around events at venues including Ministry of Sound, Egg London and The Horse & Groom, alongside the events we run ourselves in Birmingham at venues such as LAB11 and Suki10c.
Nothing replaces putting the work in yourself, and Andrew’s definitely doing that.
Still plenty to work on as we move through the second half of Advanced, but he’s heading in the right direction.
