Sorry all……this one is a long one 🙈
I always try my best to cater for last-minute orders where possible… and today definitely tested me 😅 Todays order sounded simple enough — 70 plain white iced biscuits with gold initials. Easy, right? 🤣
Now, I’ve actually tried this before and it didn’t go great, so it’s not something I officially offered. But after seeing a few different techniques online, I asked the customer if stencil lettering on top of the icing would be okay instead. She was happy with that, so I ordered everything I needed and thought I was organised for once 😂
Well… the universe had other plans.
The stencils arrived slightly too big.
The edible paint kept bleeding underneath.
I tried different brushes.
I tried a sponge.
The sponge left bubbles.
At one point I think the biscuits were testing me personally 🙃
So off I went to the cake shop for edible icing pens, and honestly at first it was going GREAT!! …until about 20 biscuits in when BOTH pens died 😭
Thankfully, the customer was incredibly understanding when I explained they wouldn’t be ready for the original collection time. Luckily she told me to take my time — which I’m so grateful for ❤️
Fast forward 8 hours later and they are FINALLY finished 😅
I think today has taught me a very important small business lesson: just because I want to say yes to everything, doesn’t always mean I should 🤣
I’m exhausted, stressed, covered in icing sugar… and finally sitting down with a cup of tea seriously reevaluating my life choices 😂☕
