Top tips for flower preservation...
Thinking of popping your bouquet in the fridge before sending it for freeze drying? Please donβt πΈ
I know it feels like the safest option, but fridges can actually do more harm than good when it comes to preserving your flowers.
Hereβs whyπβοΈ Moisture build-up β Domestic fridges create condensation, which adds unwanted moisture to delicate petalsπ«οΈ Cell damage β Fluctuating fridge temperatures can start breaking down the flower structure before preservation even beginsπ₯ Discolouration risk β Extra moisture and cold stress can lead to browning, translucency, or patchy colour lossπ Ethylene exposure β If stored near fruit/veg, flowers can age and deteriorate much faster
β¨ What to do instead:Keep your flowers in a cool, dry space, out of direct sunlight. If possible, leave them in water until youβre ready to send or drop them off.
Freeze drying works best when flowers arrive as fresh and natural as possible β not pre-chilled or stressed.
