Now I hate to shatter the illusion, but under current law, celebrant weddings in England aren't legally recognised. First taking b**gs, now this. That celebrant is proper dodgy.
The good news is, there's an easy way round it. What Vicki and Ross should have done (and can do now, it's not too late) is have a Statutory Ceremony at their local Register Office. It's a simple ceremony with 2 witnesses that fulfills the legal requirements of marriage.
As a celebrant, I'm not allowed to say 'You are now married' or ' pronounce you husband and wife' like this dodgy one did. Again, there's an easy way round it: I used the term 'wedding' instead of 'marriage', and I'll say something like 'Please welcome the newlyweds.'
And I'll always say "You may now kiss!"
