✨ Well, this day just keeps on giving! ✨

As someone who never wins anything (and yes, I know I haven’t actually won anything yet 😄), I’m still absolutely over the moon to share that I’ve been selected as a finalist for Sole Trader of the Year at the Devon Women in Business Awards 2025! I feel a bit of a fraud saying this as everyone knows I could not do any of this work I do with my wonderful husband Simon or our incredibly supportive and hardworking team. So of course this recognition is for everyone!🎉

It’s been such a whirlwind — earlier today I found out I was a finalist for Contribution to the Community, and now this! Feeling incredibly grateful and humbled to be recognised twice in one day for the work I love doing. 💚

The winners will be announced at the Awards Presentation Dinner at Sandy Park Stadium, Exeter, on Friday 14th November.

If anyone fancies a great excuse to get dressed up and come out for a lovely evening, Simon and I would love for you to join us! 💃🕺

How it started...

People often ask where the name Chef Duet came from—and most assume it’s a nod to my husband, Simon, and me. But the truth is a little different.

The name actually began with a chance meeting and a shared vision. I met Katie Chen when she had a Citroen food van yes, the one in the photo—and she needed help serving 300 guests at a charity event. I agreed to join her for the night, and what started as a one-off collaboration quickly sparked something more. That night, the idea for Chef Duet was born.

Katie brought her exceptional Chinese culinary skills, and I brought my own mixed cultural background and passion for cooking. It felt like a perfect partnership - two chefs, two perspectives, one vision.

Unfortunately, just as we began to explore the idea further, Katie opened not one but two agricultural retail stores (DP Agri and another in Shepton Mallet), and understandably couldn't commit the time the new venture required.

While I was deeply disappointed not to continue the journey together, the foundation we laid that day still inspires what Chef Duet stands for—collaboration, cultural diversity, and a shared love of exceptional food.

I miss Katie, but that van was a beast to steer, it was like driving a cardboard box...but Katie could handle it!
