To all the 2027 and 2028 brides...
It honestly feels a bit surreal to be talking about 2027 already, doesn't it? If you have just started planning, you might be hearing that you need to book everything immediately. While there is no need to panic, the reality is that many photographers are already starting to fill those calendars.
Before you put down a deposit, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Look past the highlights. Ask to see a couple of full wedding galleries. Instagram is great for the "best of" moments, but you want to see how they handle a dark reception or a rainy afternoon.
Check for consistency. Make sure their editing style looks the same from the morning prep all the way through to the dancing.
Get specific on the details. Be sure you know exactly what is included. Ask about the hours of coverage, if there is a second shooter, and if you get the full ceremony and speeches.
The technical safety net. It is okay to ask the "boring" questions. Confirm they use dual memory cards and bring backup cameras. It is peace of mind you will want on the day.
The vibe check. This is probably the most important part. You will be spending nearly your entire wedding day with your photographer. Choose someone who makes you feel relaxed and like yourself.
At the end of the day, these photos and films are what you will have left when the cake is eaten and the flowers have dried. It is worth taking the time to find a person you truly trust, rather than just choosing the lowest price.
