Blimey! Once again my time is almost up on Beverley FM for yet another week and anther month! As always, thanks for your company again today. Enjoy what's left of your bank holiday weekend and I'll catch you at the same time next Sunday and we'll do it all over again.

Before I go, I always always like to make a big exit and pick a huge song to finish the show, so I'll sign-off in the usual way with '𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗱': This week, we take you back an incredible 35 years with a massive song from band where one half of the band turns 62 today. OK then, time for two different versions of the same song on Beverley FM in '𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲'.

The first version of today's song was co-written and performed by Eddie Floyd in Memphis in 1966, although it wasn't a hit in the UK until it re-entered the charts in early 1967, peaking at number 19. There was a thunder storm the night the song was written, which inspired the lyrics "It's like thunder, lightning. The way you love me is frightening"

David Bowie made it to number ten when he released a version of the song in 1974, but we're going to fast forward 12 years to 1979 when American disco and soul singer Amii Stewart, re-imagined, re-recorded and re-released a disco version of the song which earner her a Grammy and peaked at number six in early 1979 and number seven six years later in the Summer of 1985

OK then, time for two different versions of the same song on Beverley FM in '𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲'.

The first version of today's song was recorded by American soul duo William Bell and Judy Clay in 1968. While it wasn't a huge hit in their native country, it climbed to number eight in the UK charts

Fast-forward 31 years and British boy band 911 re-recorded and re-released the song as their 12th and penultimate single in May of 1999. It managed to get five places higher in the charts, peaking at number three.
