TWENTY FLIGHT ROCKERS - Fri 30th Oct, 100 Club, London

Twenty Flight Rockers announce their first UK show in 39 years at the 100 Club on Fri 30th Oct.

Post the burning embers of The Clash came Twenty Flight Rockers and as with the aforementioned, suited and booted playing 100% Rock’n’Roll and an image to melt Elvis’ heart.

In 1983 Mark Laff (Generation X) met singer Gary Twinn just before Gary was due to leave the UK on a one way ticket to Australia, where he had had a No.1 hit with his previous band Supernaut. They recruited guitarist Ian McKean after Laff had seen him play in a local band. They had their bass player in Jeff D.Vine after being introduced to Kevin Daly who later became their road manager.

After some warmup shows including a rammed London Dingwalls they quickly attracted the attention of John Curd a promoter who made sure they would get the billing they deserved with notable supports to The Cult, The Damned and Brian James’ Lords of the New Church

Soon signed to ABC Records a label founded by Curd, they released their first single and 12” Tower Block Rock c/w Weekend Revolution. With John Curds support and after many well received shows they caught the eye of A&R man Bill Drummond at Warner Brothers Records.

They released their 2nd single Johnny 7 on WEA and with an album worth of material ready to be recorded the future was very bright.

TFR by now had accumulated a hard core following that would see them play a SOLD OUT residency at London’s legendary Marquee Club. Gaining a lot of notice was a most sought after Live At The Bull bootleg but with all the ascension, one key member was missing ~ where’s Bernie ?

Clash manager Bernie Rhodes had managed Mark Laff in Subway Sect on the infamous White Riot Tour and it was to be a night out at London’s Camden Palace that would reintroduce the pair and for Rhodes to then manage TFR……..the rest as they say is history.

Please welcome back: Gary Twinn Mark Laff Ian McKean Jeff D. Vine - TWENTY FLIGHT ROCKERS

Tickets on sale at 10am from Seetickets on Monday 27th July.

*NEW SHOW*

Cardinals + guests - Weds 2nd Sept, Bedford Esquires.

Cardinals are a thinking person’s band. Their sound, on paper, isn’t ripping up any rule books or straying too far from any guitar-band stylistic norms. But there’s something in the way that the five members – built on familial ties and life-long friendships – convey their music that feels unique and complex; of greater depth than when it first appears.

Originally hailing from Kinsale, now relocated to Cork, the quintet – brothers Euan and Finn, their cousin Darragh and childhood friends Oskar and Aaron – are the latest formidable artistic force hailing from Ireland. Following in the footsteps of now globally acclaimed bands like The Murder Capital and Fontaines D.C. (who they supported at their huge Finsbury Park day festival last summer), the lads are flying their nation’s flag, merging colourings of Irish traditionalism into a palette of edgy post-punk and intricate art-rock.

With Masquerade, their debut album via So Young Records, the band proved that they’re well worth their sizeable hype. Recorded with Shrink at RAK Studios, the body of work walks a concise, conceptual double-crossing – a classic, tasteful dichotomy of dark and light. The cover art embodies it – the icy, moribund nature on top and the blood red, religiously suggestive passion below.
