This is definitely worth a read from our friends Rob Lawes Entertainments - Premier Wedding DJ service
Ever tried standing in one spot for five hours with hundreds of people watching you and expecting the party of their lives?
Here’s a little behind the scenes insight into what a wedding DJ actually does.
Our DJs perform a maximum five hour live evening set.
When you think about it, that’s already a long time.
A film lasts around two hours.
A concert is usually about two hours.
Most wedding bands perform two 45 minute sets.
Even festival headline sets are usually about 90 minutes.
But wedding DJs?
We keep the evening party going for five hours straight.
During that time your DJ is constantly mixing music, reading the room, managing requests, hosting key moments like the first dance and keeping the energy of the evening flowing.
Here’s the part most people don’t always think about.
Once a song starts, the countdown clock is already ticking. Within those two or three minutes your DJ is choosing the next track, preparing it, mixing it in smoothly and watching how the room reacts.
Then the process repeats again.
And again.
And again.
Now imagine doing that for five hours continuously, standing in one spot the entire time without a break.
Five hours is already a DJ marathon, and we love delivering that for our couples.
That’s why five hours is the maximum live evening set our DJs perform.
If your ceremony is earlier in the day, there are lots of great ways to structure the timeline so the day still flows beautifully.
For example, there is absolutely nothing wrong with finishing celebrations around 11pm if your ceremony is at 12pm or earlier. By that point many guests have already been celebrating for 10 or 11 hours, which is quite a long day.
Another great option is to add some daytime entertainment to keep guests engaged throughout the afternoon and evening. Things like:
• Singing waiters
• A live acoustic singer
• A close up magician
• Outdoor garden games
• Lawn entertainment during the drinks reception
These can add fantastic moments to the day and help keep the atmosphere flowing naturally from the ceremony through to the evening party.
With the right timeline and a well planned evening celebration, five hours of music is more than enough time to create an incredible atmosphere and a brilliant end to your wedding day.
