The Pilgrims Rest is a 600 hundred year old Wealden Hall House situated in the medieval town of Battle in East Sussex - right in the heart of 1066 country. With endless features from huge inglenook fireplaces to ancient beams; linenfold doors to oak floors, The Pilgrims Rest is an historic gem. It even has ancient witch’s marks to ward of

f evil spirits and a secret tunnel that runs beneath the Abbey walls. Perfect for small weddings, intimate weddings and those a little larger, The Pilgrims Rest is a wedding venue with a difference. There are no hidden extras, no corkage charges and no fixed suppliers, giving you the choice to have a DIY wedding, a fully catered wedding or anything in between. The Pilgrims Rest is an exclusive use wedding venue run by our friendly and professional team who will guide you on the run up to, and on the day of, your wedding, ensuring your day runs seamlessly.

The Pilgrims Rest is stunning backdrop for your wedding without the added expense of venue styling and prop hire. Professionally designed and styled to need little decoration, but one you can add to and make your own, every detail has been carefully considered creating a wedding venue that is beautiful yet relaxed; affordable yet aspirational. The Pilgrims Rest is quite simply a truly magical place to tie the knot. Far more than just a beautiful building; this grand old lady has historic soul. She has hosted celebrations from Medieval banquets to Georgian balls, Victorian luncheons to Edwardian tea dances. Over the centuries flagons of ale, goblets of wine and flutes of champagne have been consumed beneath her eaves, to the sounds of merriment and laughter flooding through her walls.

The Pilgrims Rest is perfect for weddings all year round; during the warmer months and when the sun is shining - your guests can flood out into the pretty cottage gardens. Whilst we don’t have any restrictions with what suppliers you can choose for your day, every supplier on our list has worked at our venue multiple times and to an incredibly high standard helping you feel at ease on your day.

The Pilgrims Rest: Dry hire wedding venue

The Pilgrims Rest is a dry hire venue however we have designed and furnished it so that it needs little decoration. With Chiavari chairs for dining, real candles, fire wood and benches and furs for the ceremony we have tried to think of everything to make your day as simple and affordable for you as possible.

The Pilgrims Rest has been designed to make a small wedding not only achievable but aspirational.

The Less is More Wedding is perfect for slightly smaller, intimate weddings. For a maximum of 30 (just the right amount to fit around six of our trestle tables making a huge family dining table).
The Less is More Wedding is a wonderful option for those wanting to spend their wedding day with just their nearest and dearest.

Beyond The Moon hire period.

The Pilgrims Rest has been designed to ensure that an intimate wedding with your closest friends and family is not only affordable, but aspirational! Much like our Less is More hire option, our brand new Beyond The Moon hire option allows you access to The Pilgrims Rest for 12 hours but works great for those families that are a little larger.

We have two dressing rooms at The Pilgrims Rest. The Bryant Suite and The Fitzherbert Dressing Rooms give you and your wedding parties a place to relax and get ready on the morning of your wedding.

Both dressing rooms, although under the same roof, are on opposite ends of the building so if you choose to get ready separately you can do without bumping into each other.

For those looking for a smaller wedding, our Less Is More and Beyond The Moon hire options have been specifically designed to ensure they meet all of your needs.

For those weddings a little larger, our Bells and Whistles hire option allows you to have a few more guests whilst still giving you everything you need for an affordable and aspirational wedding.

We are lucky to be situated in the beautiful town of Battle which means we are surrounded by ancient landscapes and architecture which make for wonderful backdrops for your photos, all within walking distance. At The Pilgrims Rest we do not charge corkage which means you are free to bring your own alcohol and stock your own bar, if preferred, with no extra charges from us.
This gives you the freedom to put those extra pennies towards the elements of the day that mean the most to you.

Licensed for wedding and civil ceremonies, The Pilgrims Rest is a wedding venue that gives you the flexibility to create your wedding day just how you want it.
