The last hoorah for the dahlias.

It’s been a good year apart from a few that got slug eaten and have only started flowering this week! I’ll miss all this beautiful colour in the garden 🧡❤️🩷🤍

When you fix your vintage Fiat in time for your wedding 💛
Ollie arrived in style. Then Chloe & Ollie drove off with pure joy and possibly the best confetti toss I’ve seen 💛

Chloe & Ollie’s wedding is a wonderful example of doing away with some of the wedding traditions that don’t feel right for you as a couple. It’s your day after all. As well as Chloe waiting at the end of the aisle for Ollie to arrive they also chose to get ready together which we loved seeing. Chloe also made her fabulous jumpsuit, cape & embroidered song lyrics onto her bouquet ribbon. A lady of many talents!
I’d love to hear if anyone else ditched any traditions that didn’t fit with them? Or is there something you wish you hadn’t done?

Spindleberry, when the leaves turn pink is foliage perfection 👌💯
I’m seeing a lot more pale lilac florals for weddings this year. A pale yellow, lilac & peach combo I saw recently was particularly stunning. But I’ve also seen some that are mostly lilac. I’m surprisingly excited about that which is odd because I’ve never been keen on anything purple. Lilac mixed with the right colours can look very cool. I’m here for it 💜 Obviously I’ve just dipped my toe in here with tiny pops. Who else thinks we’ll be seeing more lilac next year?

Recent harvests 🍎🍐🍇🍒

Hasn’t it been a fabulous year for fruit and berries. The hedgerows are bursting too. I’ve been reading about how it’s a mast year for acorns as well. If you’ve not heard of a mast year it’s when trees like oaks produce more acorns and other nuts than usual. These big crops can happen every few years & provide an abundant food source for wildlife & increases the chances of some acorns surviving to grow into new trees. We have 2 oaktrees in our garden and the drive is completely covered in acorns. The squirrels are usually out in abundance but I’ve seen none so far which is odd as last year we had so many in a year with hardly any acorns. Where have they all gone? The one year we really need them! If they don’t arrive soon we’ll end up with a forest of oaks 🌳

Chloe & Ollie got married earlier this summer in what can only be described as one of the most joyous and love filled weddings I’ve ever seen. They did it their way, not being driven by tradition but by what felt right for them. Possibly the best advice anyone could give a future couple planning their wedding to follow.
It was such an honour and pleasure to flower their day.

It takes a village, as they say, to pull together a wedding. Here’s the fabulous team that came together for C & O 💛

A little floral creative meditation, or so I like to think of it. Or just being creative for the hell of it. When it all gets a bit too noisy, stressful or I just need a break, give me some flowers and my brain just switches off & becomes totally focused. There’s a lot to be said for quieting the mind and switching off for a bit. Whatever you need to stay sane in this crazy world we’re living in ❤️
I recently tried wheel throwing for the first time and am now planning on doing a course as I loved it so much. I’ve also wanted to revisit printmaking & lino from way back in the day. I also have a real urge to knit myself a jumper. No idea where that came from? (probably Autumn!)The only things I’ve knitted before are baby hats and jumpers, baby blankets and dolls clothes. And quite a few scarves. It’s been a while & it was all small stuff but maybe it’s time I try something adult sized.
Maybe it’s the time of year, or the time of life but the creative juices are full to bursting and need new challenges.
Has anyone else tried any new creative pursuits recently that might inspire me to try?

A few from a recent 1:1 workshop at my studio. Teaching the lovely Clare bridal bouquets, bowls and spring wreaths with a spot of tablescaping before lunch under the apple tree.
Clare’s parting words, “This has been the best day of my life”. Well, it doesn’t get better than that does it?
My 1:1 sessions at the apple tree house studio are always generous, both with the materials you get to work with but also the knowledge I share. There is a gentleness to the day, time to play, ask questions, chat over tea and cake & discuss all things floral design. Always with a special focus on how to be more sustainable and work with seasonal & locally grown flowers. The day can be tailored especially for you & what you’d like to learn.
We can cover anything from bouquets, wiring techniques to a full wedding session over a few days, large scale pieces like urns & arches or how to create biodegradable farewell flowers & gift bouquets. Or you can just come and spend the day playing with flowers for no other reason than because it’s a really relaxing and wonderfully joyous thing to do.
There’s always a tasty lunch on the full day session & some sort of delicious treat to finish off the session.
Get in touch if you’d like to chat about how we can curate a session just for you.

As well as seasonal bouquets going out wedding season properly kicks off this week but the cutting garden is also at a crucial stage. Every free moment is being spent outside, trying to get everything in the ground. Hardening off the last of the annuals, getting the dahlias in, putting supports in, slug prevention, weeding, more weeding, some more weeding, distracted by the prettiest roses as usual but slowly getting there in between actual work. I’ve got a beautiful wedding this weekend which I’m really looking forward to. It’s all go now we’re in full wedding season…if I can just get the garden sorted first!

If you’re looking for a florist for your wedding or event and you like the idea of working with me to create something beautiful, seasonal and locally grown then get in touch. I have a couple of slots left for this Autumn & then 2026 there is some availability.

Happy Easter everyone 🐣🌷💛

We made it to mid week. Well done everyone 🙌🏼
I couldn’t bring myself to pick any more Sylvestris than this. I only planted one pot full (clearly that was a massive error on my part) this year which I’ve enjoyed so much outside looking glorious in the sunshine.
If you’re being drawn to yellow at the moment, as so many people are (yes, it’s very much in favour) then this is a lovely pop for Spring to add to a creamy palette and goes beautifully with hellebores & fritillaries. They’d started to close up as the light faded by the time I took this photo but I still love them 💛

Tales from.....the flower studio

With a love of nature and the changing seasons my flowers are natural and wild with plenty of foraged and home grown seasonal elements. I aim to avoid, wherever possible, flowers that have been flown in from far off lands, especially when we grow so many beautiful flowers in this country. I try to buy from local, sustainable sources whenever I can and to be as eco friendly as the brief or project allows. Contact me to discuss flowering your wedding, special events & photo shoots. I also offer seasonal flower drops throughout the year and bouquets from my cutting garden during the flower season. Throughout the year I also run a series of floral workshops for beginners and budding florists. You can message me to be added to the mailing list for these.
