Calling everyone with a garden to at least put out fresh water everyday. You may be blessed with hedgehogs visiting like in my garden or even if it for the frogs, toads, newts, birds and even foxes and badgers that have no alternative but to resort to our gardens as we have encroached on their habitats.
We no longer consider the wildlife but rather an outdoor extension to our houses but this has to change where we consider sharing and caring.
Since I discovered hedgehog poo back in Feb/Mar this year, conversations with neighbours, hedgehog highway made in fences I now have 2 visiting every night. They rely on the regular food and water - these 2 are lucky but so many are dying from starvation and dehydration and despite popular belief they don’t eat slugs and snails as they contract lungworm just like dogs. Earthworms, beetles, grubs, caterpillars - all those things when the ground is hard are impossible to find.
So a tray of water and some food will benefit any wildlife in your garden and transform it into a living space.
