DJ M Coles

DJ M Coles Weddings & events, properly planned. Music shaped around you, your guests & the room.

Sometimes the moment everyone remembers isn’t the biggest one.

It’s the point where the room comes together, everyone joins in, and nobody really wants the night to end.

Those are usually the moments worth holding onto.

Sometimes reading the room means admitting the direction you were heading in wasn’t quite right.

At this wedding, I started taking the music somewhere different and noticed two people on the dance floor beginning to head off.

So I changed course.

They came straight back.

That’s the job really: not getting every decision right first time, but noticing what the room is telling you and reacting quickly.

Your wedding music should sound like you.

But your reception isn’t happening in an empty room.

Your guests bring different ages, tastes and musical reference points - and the job isn’t to predict every song they might request. It’s to
understand you, your boundaries, your guests and the reception you want, then bring those things together.

That’s why talking to your DJ matters.

And if they’re not interested in understanding any of that, it’s worth asking whether they’re the right DJ for you.

Part IV of From Music Taste to Wedding Vibe.

What you don’t want at your wedding can be just as useful as what you do.

But there’s an important distinction:

Is it an absolute do not play, even if somebody asks?

Or simply something you’d rather avoid unless it genuinely works on the night?

Tell your DJ which is which. It makes a difference.

Your wedding music list should sound like you - not like your idea of what a wedding playlist is supposed to contain.

If Mr Brightside is genuinely one of your must-plays? Absolutely.

If it’s only there because you think every wedding needs it? That’s different.

And your guests can still have their say - through guest playlists beforehand or requests on the night.

Part II of From Music Taste to Wedding Vibe.

Music used: The Killers - Mr Brightside

A wedding playlist shouldn’t really be a playlist.

It’s much more useful as a guide to your taste - the tracks you genuinely love, the genres you gravitate towards, the real must-plays and how you want your reception to feel.

Give your DJ enough direction to understand you - and enough room to read the room.

Sometimes the moments people remember most aren’t the biggest ones.

They’re the moments when everybody joins in, sings together, and the whole room suddenly feels like one.

Those are the moments worth making space for.

What’s the wedding moment you still remember?
