There’s just something magical about this time of year… ✨

The rich burnt oranges, deep reds, golden yellows, warm creams and gorgeous earthy greens — autumn really does give us the most beautiful palette to work with. 🧡🌻🍁

🤍 It’s more than just flowers…

There are some orders that you never take lightly.

Recently, I had the honour of creating these funeral letter tributes, each one carefully made by hand using beautiful white chrysanthemums and finished with delicate floral details. 🤍

When a family asks me to create flowers for someone they love, they’re trusting me with a tiny part of that person’s final goodbye — and that is something I will always consider a privilege.

Behind every name, every letter and every flower is a person who was loved, a lifetime of memories and a family saying goodbye.

I take so much care over funeral flowers because I know that, on one of the hardest days imaginable, those little details matter.

Sometimes flowers can say the things we simply can’t find the words for. 🤍

I’d love to know — is there a particular flower that instantly reminds you of someone special? 🌿
Maybe it was their favourite flower, something they grew in their garden, or simply a flower you’ll always associate with them.

🍂 A Little Update From Spirit Florist 🍂

Just a quick note to let you know that the shop will be closing early today at 1pm.

I’ll be heading out on the road delivering flowers for funeral services a little further afield. 🤍🌿

Funeral flowers are such an important and personal part of what I do, and I always make sure they arrive safely, beautifully presented and exactly where they need to be.

Join me for a cosy Christmas Wreath Making Workshop, where I’ll guide you step-by-step through creating your very own beautiful festive door wreath to take home.

🌿🌸 THINGS YOUR FLORIST KNOWS THAT YOU MIGHT NOT… 🌸🌿

Today’s subject: the very pretty, very popular and occasionally very pongy Gypsophila. 😂

At Spirit Florist, we love creating those soft, whimsical, airy wedding flowers — and gypsophila can absolutely have its place.

But there’s something worth knowing before you order armfuls of it for your DIY wedding…

Fresh gypsophila can have a smell.

And once you’ve worked with enough of it, you KNOW that smell. 😂

It’s difficult to describe politely. Some people barely notice it, while others describe it as everything from sweaty socks to sour milk or something the cat may have left behind. 🙈

The important bit is quantity.

A few delicate stems floating through a bouquet or arrangement? Beautiful.

Ten great big bunches packed tightly together on tables in a warm wedding venue?

That can be a completely different experience — especially when those arrangements are sitting inches away from your guests while they’re eating!

If you love that light, delicate, meadowy look, you don’t have to automatically reach for gypsophila either.

We often achieve that softness with flowers such as waxflower, ammi/Queen Anne’s lace, astilbe, statice or little touches of chamomile, depending on the season and the overall design.

And sometimes the prettiest option is simply using more space between your flowers rather than filling every gap.

That’s one of those little things you learn after years of handling flowers: what looks beautiful in a photograph also has to work beautifully in real life. 🌿

So if you’re planning your own wedding flowers, here’s your Spirit Florist tip of the day:

Before buying 15 bunches of anything, buy ONE. Condition it, let it sit in the house for a day and see what you actually think of it. 😂🌸

Because your wedding flowers should have your guests saying…

“Oh my goodness, they’re gorgeous!”

Not…

“Can anyone else smell that?” 👀😂
