VOLUNTEER WITH THE BARN!

A rare opportunity has come about at the Barn, for the first time in a long time, we're open for new volunteers! With the completion of our new Walled Garden, we're looking for volunteers to keep our garden looking fresh and serene for the whole community to enjoy. Plus venue volunteers to support our team with preparing for shows and maintaining the venue.

Saturday 30 May @ 4:30pm at the Barn

We'll see the painting together for the first time, hear all about the process, and we'll chat about where the project goes next! You don't need to be part of The Far Orchard project to come along. Next week at the Barn: Live music | Jonny Hardie and Pete MacCallum: Argyll to Aberdeenshire in Stories, Tunes and Songs

Thursday 4 June @ 7.30pm

The Barn is delighted to welcome musicians Jonny Hardie and Pete MacCallum for an evening of the very best of traditional and contemporary Scottish folk music. Renowned fiddler and founder member of the Old Blind Dogs, Jonny Hardie, and talented singer and guitarist, Pete MacCallum, will perform traditional tunes and folk songs, plus many original compositions. With more than a hint of the "Bothy Jazz" underpinning their work they’ll have you bouncing oot yer seats and singing a few mighty choruses along the way. Jonny & Pete will take you on a musical journey around Scotland exploring some beautiful traditional melodies, wild jigs and reels and songs both old and new. This will be an evening of fun and laughter wi a puckle o’fine stories and comic turns in for good measure.

Discover the magic of cyanotype printing in this hands-on workshop, where you’ll create your own stunning blue and white prints inspired by nature. This historic photographic process uses sunlight and natural materials to produce beautiful, unique artworks. During the session, you’ll learn how to coat paper, arrange objects to create striking compositions, and develop your prints using just sunlight and water. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to explore a new creative technique, this relaxed and enjoyable workshop will give you the skills to continue experimenting at home.

Hello from Adam at the Barn! 👋

As we continually evolve at the Barn, we want to ensure we’re always keeping communities at our core and working with people in our local area.

Our first collaborative event is coming up very soon! Join us at Banchory Show on Saturday 25 July for two special showings of Pop! - a dance show for the whole family to enjoy.

It's so important for us at the Barn to provide spaces that allow access to the arts and culture for our communities. It's who we are to the core. The whole reason we exist, is to bring you opportunities to engage with creativity.

The Barn was started in the 90s by a community group so keeping communities at our core feels like an important nod to the past, while allowing us to keep in mind what is truly important to us as we move forward.

As we move forward, we want to create more opportunities for people to take part, shape what happens here, and connect through creativity. Whether you’ve been coming for years or are visiting for the first time, we are glad you are here.

We’re an arts charity with an interest in ecology, using nature as our guiding partner. Our programme of events includes:

✏️ workshops for all ages and abilities (including kids, teens, adults and older adults!)
🎭 live theatre, including family shows
🎶 live music
🎬 films, including relaxed screenings suitable for those with additional requirements

Join us at the Barn for our fundraising Plant Sale! 🌱

Saturday 6 June @ 10am - 12pm

With Spring in full swing and Summer around the corner, now is perfect time to get some new plants for your green spaces. Browse through a selection of cuttings, seedlings and full on blooms all grown here by local folk.

All the proceeds from sales will contribute to fundraising efforts for the Barn so we can continue our ecological and creative work.

Next week at FOLD at the Barn - Meet the Artist: Bryan Angus

Drop-into FOLD, our Craft & Design Store at the Barn, and meet acclaimed printmaker and visual artist Bryan Angus. On the day, he will demonstrate printmaking his unique prints. The Banff-based artist is inspired by the land and sea around him and the rich history of the people who shaped the Moray coast. The Gray’s School of Art Fine Art graduate has been printmaking since 2012 and has exhibited across the UK and in Istanbul, Norway and Italy – where he’s had residencies. He is currently working on illustration projects with writers, on commercial projects and creating his own work.

Drop in anytime on Saturday 30 May, between 11am - 4pm. See you there!
