I've been an admirer of the magical nature creations of the Spell Songs gang for a while, so will look forward to these 🌿

This year's BBC Radio 4 Reith lecturer will be the best-selling author and Spell Songs inspirer Robert Macfarlane,

Robert will argue that a belief in human superiority has brought us to the brink of planetary catastrophe.
He says: “We imagine ourselves perched atop a pinnacle, when in fact we are entangled in a web of life."
Across four lectures, each taking one of the elements (Earth, Air, Fire, Water) as its focus, he explores the causes and consequences of this ‘human superiority complex’ for our relationships with the larger living world. And he shows how scientists, writers, artists and activists around the world are contesting the story of human exceptionalism in order to realise a hopeful, viable future on Earth.

The lectures will be chaired by presenter, journalist and author, Anita Anand and will be recorded in front of live audiences in London,Bangor, Aberdeen and Amsterdam. They will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and the BBC World Service later this year and will be available to listen to on BBC Sounds.

They say things come in threes. Sometimes the strange world of coincidences blows my mind.

I deliver to an approximate 10 mile radius of Middleton Cheney. At the start of this week, I didn't have any Saturday delivery orders. By Friday, I had received two for the same village on the very edge of that radius, a place I go to only about twice a year. And an hour before I was due to set off yesterday, I received a last minute request for a third bouquet, to the very same village.

And what's even stranger, is that there was one each to acknowledge the three main registered life events: a birth, and marriage and a death. I know it's all random coincidence, and from a purely practical point of view, it was great to be able to make just one journey in an overheated week, rather than three. But it's really struck me as a significant alignment too.

A reminder that life is happening all around, it's a rollercoaster yes, but moreso a cycle we're all experiencing, from different start points: while you are living highs, others may be in their darkest days, but it all keeps turning.

Day 6 of British Flowers Week

To celebrate homegrown abundance, I've put together some joyful £10 options for the weekend.
