oy very much. I have been very privileged to work with some lovely people over time and to alter and make some stunning dresses. There is nothing better than meeting a bridal party, often quite stressed, and being able to calm nerves and promise on the day their dresses will look stunning and fit perfectly. This gorgeous flower girl dress came to us for an alteration to the length.☺️

This sweet little dress matches her mum's wedding dress that we also altered.🤗

She looks amazing and so sweet in the dress and this was a fun job to undertake.🥰

A lot of hemlines these days will include crinoline (crin) on the edge.

This is a woven light plastic which years ago would have been made of horse hair, and still today it can be known as a horse hair hem.

In order to alter these hemlines, the crinoline needs to be unpicked, removed and then carefully re-applied. Here you can see I am re-attaching the crin where the hem has been taken up. This requires careful stitching, as the crin is very stretchy and would look messy if stretched.

Although quite time consuming, once finished correctly the final hem looks crisp and neat.

A beautiful rolled hem for this lovely prom dress. Rolled hems are one of my favourite hems to do and they look so neat and tidy.😍

To create a rolled hem you measure, turn your fabric once and stitch, then trim away any excess fabric as close as you can to the stitching and then turn it again and stitch over your existing stitches.🪡

Some may say this is an old fashioned way to do it as you can get a special “foot” for your sewing machine, but this is my preferred way.😊

I would like to give all you brides out there a little bit of advice.

It might be cheaper, but that doesn’t automatically mean you will get good service or a professional job done.

Just lately, I have seen and corrected some shocking alterations that I sincerely hope the customer didn’t pay a high price for! It was quite obvious that whoever did these had not got the sufficient knowledge or skills to undertake these alterations correctly. This can actually result in you paying a lot more to correct than if you had just had it done professionally in the first place.

Just because someone has a sewing machine does not mean they are a Seamstress.

I know you have heard us say this before but we can’t say it enough, please book your seamstress as soon as you have your wedding date.🙏

Just today, we have turned away several brides and prom as we are fully booked and cannot take anymore work, and this is now becoming the norm. We hate having to turn people away.😥

I know some people think it looks like we are touting for work, but I can assure you we are not. We get booked up extremely quickly and we have already got a number of bookings for 2026 and one for 2027, so it’s never too early.😮
