As the owner of a small garden centre and florist shop, I never imaged I would find myself calling for boycotts of other businesses in other countries, but I am deeply ashamed that it has taken me so long to speak out against the atrocities being committed by Israel and it's supporters in the United States. What has unfolded over the last year and a half, and indeed over the last 80 years, is unbearable. The images of Palestinian people - children and babies - suffering a man-made famine and campaign of cruelty and violence are horrifying. This not just a tragedy, it is a crime against humanity, and yet most governments merely look on, offering little more than a feeble murmur of disapproval. Sadly, history has shown us that governments only respond when they are hit where it hurts - economically. Boycotts and sanctions have the power to create pressure that words alone cannot. As a florist, I have access to a wide selection of Israeli cut flowers through my Dutch suppliers. I have contacted them to urge a boycott of all Israeli products, and I encourage florists across Ireland to do the same. We may be small businesses, but together our actions can send a powerful message. Let's stand on the right side of history. BOYCOTT ISRAEL.
