Wonderful Pat. I first met Pat 19 years ago when I opened the shop. Her and Keith brought so much light and love into our community and created the real heart of Baildon in Wesley's. She is one of the most vibrant, joyous, kind, resilient, determined and positive people I have ever met. She is a real asset to our community and is a shining example of all that is good. We love you Pat. ###
30 years ago a much loved couple at church - Pat and Keith - had an idea. That idea became a reality and was the beginning of what is now our fantastic Community Hub known as 'Wesleys'. We are one of over 5000 places in the country known as a "Warm Welcome Space" and this national organisation wanted nominations for an"Unsung Hero Award". Sadly Keith is no longer with us but Pat was nominated and we are so happy to announce that she is one of only 4 finalists! Well done Pat, this is so well deserved after 30 years of dedicated voluntary service to Wesleys. Pat has just had her 85th birthday (age given with permission) but her energy and enthusiasm equal that of someone much younger. Congratulations, we all love you Pat and good luck with the final in June.
This is what Pat has had to say:
"It was my privilege to be at the start of Wesley’s in 1996 with Keith as it runs now and we should be proud of how it has grown. We are blessed with 70 volunteers who work willingly to make the Centre a warm welcoming space .
It is so lovely to hear the positive comments we receive from people who visit us for the first time.
I am very proud to be going to the awards ceremony on June 17th to represent all the volunteers past and present who have made “Wesleys” what we have become today"
