Evening all !
This saturday brings the Baildon scarecrow festival. It's a lovely event for our community running from 11am - 4pm.
One of our friends, Helga, has knitted an amazing scarecrow, which we plan to raffle off. All proceeds will go to Cancer Support Yorkahire, who do an amazing job of caring for people who have been diagnosed with cancer and help them through their journey through treatment and beyond.
Helga is a retired teaching assistant who loves knitting.
In June 2024, she was diagnosed with an aggressive tumour in her eye.
With swift intervention, surgeons managed to remove Helgas' right eye and any residual cancer cells within 2 weeks of presentation.
Cancer Support Yorkshire helped her with councilling and support throughout her diagnosis, treatment, and after care.
Cancer Support Yorkshire do not receive any government funding and are financially dependant on donations from people like us to ensure they can continue their amazing work.
Helga is now knitting regularly to raise funds to give a little back to them to show her appreciation and to help others going through similar journeys in life.
We have all been directly or indirectly affected by cancer at some point in our lives and to this end please help us to help Helga by buying a raffle ticket, giving you the chance to win Charlie the Scarecrow.
A strip of raffle tickets is £1 and we will announce the winner on Saturday evening.
You can pop in to the shop anytime between now and Saturday or reserve tickets on here if you reply to this post.
It is a great cause, and we are honoured to be able to assist Helga in her pursuit to increase funding and help others.
We also have some other knitted goodies from Helga, which are for sale. 100% of the money will go to Cancer Support Yorkshire. Helga has bought all the wool, patterns and knitting needles herself, so please throw a quid in the bucket and make a difference
Thank you 😊
