Who makes up YOUR family?

Four generations of women made up the family in this portrait.
Yours doesn't have to.
It could be Mum, Dad and the kids. Three siblings. Grandparents and grandchildren. All the cousins. Or your family might have four paws and insist on sitting on the sofa. 🐾
My Timeless Generations sessions are back for just two days on 12th & 13th September.

And here's the clever bit...
I don't actually photograph everyone together.
Each person is photographed individually before I carefully combine the images to create one completely unique family portrait.
Which means I don't need three children, Granny and the Labrador to simultaneously look in the right direction. Frankly, that feels like witchcraft even without Photoshop. 😂

Your dog is probably the most photographed member of your household.
Sleeping. Eating. Walking. Being ridiculous. Sitting in a sunbeam. Doing absolutely nothing but somehow still deserving 14 photographs.
But scroll through your camera roll.
How many photographs are there of you together?
That's why I'll always encourage you to step into a few photographs during their session.
Not because you need a perfect portrait of yourself.
Because your relationship with them deserves to be photographed too.

I promise I'm not trying to trick you into a portrait session. 😂
But when you tell me you “only want photographs of the dog”, I'm probably going to persuade you to jump in for a few.
Five minutes.
No posing expertise required.
You don't even have to look at me.
Because the relationship you have with your dog deserves to exist somewhere other than your memories and a handful of slightly questionable selfies.
Just love your dog.

🚨🚨Sneak Peek Alert🚨🚨

Stirling was absolutely buzzing yesterday. The sun was shining, people were out in full techno colour for Stirling Pride and in a beautiful ceremony John and Crystal became husband and wife. I can't wait to fully edit this intimate wedding and blog about how they met and John's stormy proposal 😉⛈️ But in the meantime here are some hastily edited sneak peeks to tag and share.

Things parents tell me:
“They never smile for photos.”
And do you know what I don't immediately do?
Stand behind my camera shouting SMIIIIIILE!
Natural expressions don't tend to appear on command.
Especially when you're three and some strange woman has just pointed a massive camera at you.
So we give them time.
We chat.
We play.
We act daft.
I might move on to somebody else entirely.
And then…
There it is.
The actual smile.
Not because we demanded one.
Because something made them smile.
Excellent. Nobody say CHEESE. 😂

Well, this feels particularly well timed after I've spent the week talking about relaxed family photoshoots. ❤️
“So happy we found JB Moments! Delighted with the family portraits and a really speedy service. Jenny had us all relaxed and comfortable - even the pets!”
Even. The. Pets. 😂
Because a family photoshoot isn't about everyone arriving knowing exactly what to do in front of a camera.
That's my job.
You bring the children, the personalities, the slightly camera-shy adults and yes, absolutely bring the four-legged family members too.
I'll worry about the rest.

Read that again if you've ever thought:
“I'd love some family photos, but mine would NEVER behave.”
Good news.
They don't have to.
I'm much more interested in photographing who your children actually are than getting them to perform for my camera.
The shy bit.
The wild bit.
The cuddles.
The silliness.
The serious faces.
The belly laughs.
Even the occasional sibling death stare. 😂
Because one day, that's the stuff you'll want to remember.

Here's a secret.
When you tell me your child won't sit still, won't smile, might hide behind you and will almost certainly ignore everything I say…
I'm not internally panicking.
I'm thinking:
Yep. Sounds like a child. 😂
Family photography doesn't have to mean forcing everyone to behave perfectly for an hour.
We play. We move. We change tack. We take breaks. We involve you.
And somewhere amongst all of that, I photograph the good stuff.
