Tania’s Oak 🌳

Some trees carry more than branches — they carry stories.

The oak tree you see as you enter Knockerdown was grown from an acorn collected beneath a mighty oak beside the Chesterfield Canal.

It was planted here around 1986 by Andy, who had grown it from an acorn in the year his first daughter, Tania, was born.

He still checks on the tree whenever he passes.

Today, both the tree — and Tania, now an NHS consultant — are thriving.

We love knowing that little pieces of Knockerdown hold stories like this, quietly growing through the years 💚

What a weekend celebrating Ellie & Ben at Knockerdown Cottages 💛✨

The couple arrived on Friday with family and friends, transforming the village into a colourful wedding space filled with love, laughter, and handmade touches. Beautiful bunting, lovingly made by the bride’s mum, was strung across the venue creating a stunning splash of colour, while vibrant lanterns lit up the function area perfectly.

Friday evening was all about relaxing together, with a lovely meal shared amongst friends and family before the celebrations truly began.

Saturday morning started energetically as the groom and his party headed off for a 5K run around Carsington Water 🏃‍♂️

The wedding ceremony commenced at 12pm and what a joyous occasion it was. A harpist provided beautiful music for the ceremony before guests enjoyed a drinks reception in the sunshine. Delicious pie and mash was served by Pieminister, followed later in the evening by amazing woodfired pizzas from Ricardo’s Woodfired Pizza 🍕

Special mention also goes to Sky the dog 🐾, who was wonderfully looked after throughout the celebrations by dog chaperone James Stark, with memories of the day beautifully captured by videographer James Stark and photographer Tom Hodges.

As night fell, the dance floor came alive with an incredible performance from California Waiting, with guests dancing the night away. 🎶💃🕺

Sunday brought brighter weather and the perfect ending to a wonderful wedding weekend, with a fun-filled sports day on the meadow, games, laughter, and great food shared with family and friends.

A truly unforgettable celebration from beginning to end — congratulations Ellie & Ben! 🥂💕

We are looking for a reliable, practical and enthusiastic General Maintenance Assistant to join our friendly team at Knockerdown Cottages.

Main Duties
General maintenance and repairs within our holiday cottages
Basic plumbing, decorating and minor repairs
Distribution and movement of linen between cottages
Gardening and general grounds maintenance
Assisting with the maintenance of our indoor swimming pool (full training provided)

About You
Practical with good DIY and maintenance skills
Physically fit and happy carrying out manual work
Reliable, trustworthy and punctual
Able to work independently and use your own initiative
Flexible and willing to assist with occasional weekend and holiday cover when required

What We Offer

A varied role in a beautiful countryside setting

🌿 Corporate events… but make it jungle themed 🐍🔥

Knockerdown recently played host to an unforgettable corporate stay with an ‘I’m A Celebrity’ inspired twist — and safe to say, the teams fully embraced the challenge 🌴

From group activities and team challenges to evenings spent dining together and relaxing back at the venue, Knockerdown provided the perfect setting for bringing colleagues together outside the office.

With spacious accommodation, flexible event spaces and plenty of room for team bonding (and a little healthy competition 👀), corporate stays at Knockerdown are anything but ordinary.

A couple visiting Knockerdown yesterday shared something that really stayed with us…

It’s such an important reminder when choosing a wedding venue. Stunning views are wonderful, but your ceremony space should feel just as special, welcoming and memorable as the setting around it.

What a beautiful weekend celebrating the marriage of Emma & Adam back in Spring ☀️🌻💍

The celebrations began on Friday as they arrived and transformed the space—setting up their bar area and decorating the village with twinkling lights before spending a relaxed evening socialising with their guests.

Saturday brought perfect sunshine for a stunning outdoor ceremony, where they were married by the Bakewell registrar. Drinks on the terrace followed, leading into a delicious wedding breakfast served by Tacoporium 🌮

As the day turned into evening, guests enjoyed incredible wood-fired pizza, and the party truly came alive thanks to their friend Mathew on the decks—keeping everyone dancing all night long 💃🕺

The venue looked absolutely breath-taking, styled by Emma from Ambience with soft pale blue tones to complement the bridesmaids’ dresses. Every detail was simply perfect. Their special moments were beautifully captured by Big Day Productions, with stunning floral arrangements by Bloom & Blossom adding the finishing touches 🌸

Sunday brought slightly cloudier skies, but that didn’t stop the celebrations! Friends and family came together for a relaxed BBQ, with fantastic entertainment from Sophie Sax 🎷—the perfect way to round off an unforgettable weekend.

A truly magical few days from start to finish—congratulations Mr & Mrs Barton! 🥂💕

🏡 Our on-site Guest Accommodation 🏡

Our 16 holiday cottages can provide wedding guest accommodation for up to 93 guests. Each cottage is individually styled with all the facilities you would expect to find in a self catering holiday cottage. We are situated in the Derbyshire Dales, approximately 6 miles from Ashbourne, 15 miles from Derby and on the doorstep of the beautiful Carsington Reservoir.

All cottages come with TV and DVD player in the lounge space, and free Wi-Fi. A well-equipped kitchen with cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, crockery, cutlery, glasses and utensils. Each bedroom has ample drawer and wardrobe space. All bed linen is provided along with two towels per person. Each cottage has a hairdryer, iron and ironing board and we can also provide high-chairs on request.

Onsite facilities include an indoor heated swimming pool, outdoor children’s play area, a communal games room and a large private meadow to explore. We also have four dog friendly holiday cottages so your four-legged friends can join in the celebrations too.
