We are all eagerly anticipating our final concert of the season on Sunday 2nd April. The inimitable, sparkling bundle of musical energy and fun that is Bradley Creswick will come out to play with his friends Roberto Carrillo-Garcia (double bass and guitar) and pianist Gemma Beeson, just for us. Check out the full details on our website at www.appleby-concerts.org.uk from where you can also order your tickets for what promises be an evening to remember. As charismatic leader of the Royal Northern Sinfonia for so many years, Bradley earned his place in the hearts of thousands of concert-goers, many of whom we expect to follow him to Appleby on this particular Sunday. Your scribe had a preview of some of this trio's programme in the intimate setting of Bobik's in Newcastle last summer and the synergy between the musicians on stage was electrifying, exemplified in their delivery of works by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla with rhythms so sharp they could draw blood. Do you divine a hint of excitement about this season's curtain call? Answers please on a postcard or a comment, below.

Two more concerts left in the season. This coming Sunday (26th February at 7:30pm) we welcome Budapest Cafe Orchestra with their fabulous repertoire of Balkan music with the Klezmer and Gipsy influences and the thumping asymmetric rhythms that make you know that this is music from a different dimension or even from a different atmosphere from that which we ordinarily breathe. Our audiences normally only buy literally one or two tickets online from our Ticketsource facility : https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/north-westmorland-arts/t-nojmkjq ahead of a concert but, for this one they are flying off the page. Already sold out in Arnside and Coniston, we look forward to a cracking, foot-tapping evening.

Tickets are now available for Budapest Cafe Orchestra at Appleby Public Hall, Cumbria on Sun 26 Feb 2023 at 7:30PM. Click the link for further information and to secure your tickets now!

Our new 2022-23 season is now live on our website appleby-concerts.org.uk and we shall shortly be adding the ticket sales links too, to our favoured TicketSource partners. Do check out our programme of concerts and we shall look forward to greeting you there.

First out of the blocks on Sunday afternoon 25th September are the students of the Junior Royal Northern College of Music. Last time they visited us, we were truly wowed by the talent coming through, but were sad to be robbed of a preview of saxophonist Jess Gillam's promise, as she and her family were forced back by a snowstorm on the M6 on the way to our concert.😐 Another time, Jess?

Hot on the heels of last Sunday's concert, on Sunday 13th March, we bring you the Solway Saxophone Quartet with a programme that rifles the drawers of every musical genre and instrumental group. Check out the programme at our website www.appleby-concerts.org.uk where you can also book tickets. Concert starts at 7:30pm in Appleby's Public Hall, doors open at 7:00pm.

It's concert time again. This weekend, (Sunday 27th February, 7:30pm Appleby Public Hall) we present to you violinista Boglarka Gyorgy and pianist Amy Butler (apologies for last night's typo, renaming Amy) with an engaging programme of music starting with the quirky, punchy, earthy Romanian Folk Dances transcribed by Bela Bartok, Change of mood to the balmy evocation of an English summer and Vaughan-Williams' iconic work The Lark Ascending. Cross the North Sea next for a Nordic violin sonata by Grieg - you might need a scarf and fasten your top button. Crossing La Manche we now take in the surprisingly funky / bluesey images from Maurice Ravel's pen with his 2nd violin sonata. And to finish? How about a Russian's interpretation of Gershwin's wonderful Porgy & Bess with Igor Frolov's Concert Fantasy on this theme. It will probably call for a round of vodka shots in celebration. Tonight's concert (Sunday 28th November) is cancelled.

With great regret, the Sacconi Quartet are unable to play tonight as Storm Arwen has decided to keep them in Darlington by closing the A66. A valiant effort to get to us down Wensleydale came to naught with a particularly fearsome hill that defeated their car's traction and they were forced to return to Darlington.

We shall arrange a new date with them for the first available window in their very active calendar and let you all know when that will be.

Hello to all our followers. There's a stirring in the leaves, there's a melody in the trees and the birds are singing. It's the new awakening of the live music scene as COVID, for now, has relaxed its grip on our society. And in swift response to this, NWA have pulled together a new season of 6 concerts to see us all through autumn, winter and the beginning of Spring 2022. We open with the sparkling talent, youth and vitality of flute & guitar Meraki Duo on Sunday 10th October. Full details to follow on the Appleby Concert website very soon. Appleby's Public Hall provides spacious seating and a very high ceiling to offer a safe environment for the still-slightly-wary and we look forward to welcoming you all back for a much-needed "fix" of live music performance.
