What a stunning venue The Collectors Hall is!

Such a beautiful setting for a wedding, and it was a real pleasure to be there helping Jessica and her bridal party get ready for her big day in the AC by Marriott hotel.

Well, the steamer certainly earned its keep that morning!
There was Jessica’s bridal gown and veil, bridesmaids’ dresses, both the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom outfits, the cutest wee flower girl’s dress, and not forgetting the groom and his groomsmen’s shirts.

So plenty to keep me busy before anyone even thought about getting dressed!

Once all the steaming was finished and everything was hanging beautifully, it was time to get Jessica and her bridal party into their finery.
A few buttons to fasten, dresses to straighten, a veil to arrange and those final little adjustments that make all the difference.
It was a busy morning in a gorgeous venue, and there's something really lovely about seeing everyone all dressed and ready after spending the morning preparing their outfits.

It's the part of my job I never get tired of.

🍂 An Autumn Day at Rowallan Castle 🍁

The sky is blue, the sun shines bright,
The autumn colours, what a sight!
A gentle breeze blows through the trees,
Sending golden leaves dancing on the breeze.

At Rowallan Castle, my steamer’s on,
There’s plenty to do before daylight’s gone.
Tomorrow’s the wedding, excitement’s in the air,
And I’ve gowns, suits and shirts needing my care!

The guests have travelled from near and far,
By plane, by train and by motor car.
Their outfits have spent hours packed away tight,
So I’m steaming those creases out of sight!

A puff of steam, a swish, a glide,
All in preparation for tomorrow’s bride.
The gowns will hang, looking fresh and bright,
Ready for everyone to look just right.

And while outside the autumn leaves fall,
I’m making sure there’s no crease at all!
For tomorrow it’s love, laughter and cheer,
But today it’s me and my steaming gear!

There once was a bride in the rain,
Whose dress had been creased on the train.
The skies were all grey,
But we saved the day,
And sent her off smiling again!

The weather might be dreich, damp and miserable today, but at Dressed by Christine, we're still busy making sure our brides look fabulous, whatever the Scottish weather throws at us!

Not every crease is a crease that should be removed.

We see lots of bridesmaid dresses that have been ordered online and arrived tightly folded, packed into small bags or boxes and sometimes looking very different from the photos on the website.

Professional steaming is about knowing the difference between an unwanted packing crease and a fold, pleat, gather or bit of shaping that is actually part of the design.
Some fabrics need more care than others too. Too much heat, too much steam or pulling the fabric completely flat can actually spoil the way the dress is meant to hang.

So when we steam bridesmaid dresses, the aim isn’t to make every single section perfectly flat.

It’s to remove the creases that shouldn’t be there while keeping the shape, movement and detail that should.

That’s where specialist gown care is very different from simply running a handheld steamer over a dress.

What a week it’s been for Dressed by Christine 🤍
We’ve been here, there and everywhere again this week, helping some gorgeous brides get wedding ready.
Ally and Isaac tied the knot at was at the beautiful Auchen Castle
Sarah and Mark tied the knot at Kinmount House
And Laura and Steven celebrated their big day at Hetland Hall Hotel.
Three lovely weddings, three very different venues and plenty of steaming, dressing, fluffing, fastening and making sure everything was just right before they headed off to say “I do”.
We really do get to visit some beautiful places doing this job, but the best bit is always being part of those final few hours before the wedding begins.
Congratulations to all three couples. We hope you had the most amazing day and wish you all a lifetime of happiness together.

Yesterday’s bride, Ally, travelled all the way from North Carolina to marry Isaac at beautiful Auchen Castle

Her gorgeous wedding gown made the journey too, packed carefully into a suitcase, so by the time it arrived it was well and truly creased.

A professional steam later and it was transformed, hanging beautifully and ready for the big moment.

We loved the rich burgundy and deep red flowers too. Such stunning colours for an autumn wedding.

When your wedding gown has travelled all the way from North Carolina to Scotland, it is definitely going to need a little TLC.
Yesterday we had the pleasure of steaming Ally’s beautiful bridal gown ahead of her wedding to Isaac at Auchen Castle.
Ally and Isaac had travelled all the way from North Carolina to celebrate with their closest family and friends, and of course the gown had made the journey too.
The only problem was, it had spent that journey packed inside a suitcase.
Wedding gowns crease so easily, even on a short journey, so after being carefully folded, packed, flown across the Atlantic, unpacked and transported again, Ally’s gown was well and truly creased by the time it arrived.
And that is completely normal.
This is exactly why we always say that even the most beautiful gown can look very different after travelling.
A careful professional steam later and the difference was huge. The gown was hanging beautifully and ready for Ally to wear.
Then there is the other photo of Ally and Isaac together, surrounded by the most stunning flowers in rich burgundy, deep red and gorgeous autumnal shades.
Quite a difference from the very creased gown that first came out of the suitcase.

One very well travelled wedding gown.
And not a crease in sight by the time we were finished.

WHAT PEOPLE THING A BRIDAL DRESSER DOES ON A WEDDING MORNING

Turn up.
Steam the dress.
Help the bride into it.
Give the train a wee fluff.
Job done.

What we actually do WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO:-

We arrive carrying enough kit to look like we are moving in for the weekend.
We steam gowns, veils, bridesmaids’ dresses and anything else that needs a little attention.

We check zips, buttons, straps, loops, hooks and all those tiny fastenings that suddenly become very important on a wedding morning.

We organise the dresses and make sure everything is ready when it needs to be.
We keep an eye on the time without making anyone feel rushed or standing there announcing that everyone is running late.

We get the bride into her gown properly, whether that means a corset back, 97 tiny buttons, body tape, straps, loops, bustles or a dress that has suddenly decided it has a personality of its own.

We help bridesmaids, mums and flower girls.
We sort veils, trains and accessories.

If needed, we can also help with the menfolk, whether that is steaming shirts, checking suits or kilts, or making sure buttonholes are sitting where they should.

We work alongside photographers and venue teams so everything looks right and the morning keeps moving.

We crawl around floors.
We carry things.
We find things nobody else can find.
We fix things that were definitely not supposed to break ten minutes before the ceremony.
We sew.
We pin.
We tape.
We straighten.
We calm.

And every now and again, the most important part of the job is simply saying,
“You’re fine. We’ve got you.”

Because a bridal dresser is not just there to steam a dress.
We are there to take a whole chunk of stress out of your wedding morning so you can actually enjoy it.
