What have been the most memorable events you have attended or taken part in at the Alton Community Centre?
The centre has been home to many different organisations, groups and clubs over the last 50 years and hosted a range of events including:
Quiz Nights, Bottle Fairs, Book Fairs, Discos, Psychic Fair, First Aid Training, Blood Donations, The Duck Race, Lions PSA Testing, Repair Cafe, Fringe Theatre productions to name a few.
I have attended multiple events (especially any event where there were postcards on sale!) over the years and have many memories of the centre, but the most memorable event for me was a quiz by the Alton Rotary Club in 2019. Our team were in joint first place but lost in the tie break 😔. It was a brilliant evening, with some fantastic people, 3 of the team were reminiscing about it just last month.
It is also where I got over my needle phobia, I decided to become a blood donor many years ago and looked at the positive side, i.e. that fraction of a second of discomfort, would help someone when they needed it most. It worked my phobia has well and truly gone now, but it seemed such a big step to take at the time!
