Christmas kissing ball alert.......

It's a gorgeous day for a walk in the snow.......so wrap up cosy, grab a pair of secateurs and gather some greenery.......remember to collect different shades and textures.......

All you'll need to make a Christmas kissing ball is a potato (yup you read that right), twine, secateurs and something sharp to make holes. I use a scriber but a long nail would be just as good. Ribbon is optional. They're fiddly little fckrs to get started so perhaps a glass of vino to relax might help.

These gorgeous balls of seasonal loveliness, originate way back to the 1700's and were traditionally decorated with herbs such as rosemary. They fell well and truly out of fashion and the dastardly floral foam replaced potatoes (and apples) as the base piece.

Anyway....I'm off to make one up before I venture out to see the Proclaimers......have a fabulous festive Saturday......❄️🎄

Wintery walk with Bear today didn't quite go to plan. We headed out to meet the race horses but were thwarted by a stack of hay bales which were apparently terrifying. The big bad German Shepherd had to be carried home....bless her cotton paws.

Definitely bored of wreaths this year - it's all a bit meh!

So........anyone want to learn how to make a Christmas kissing ball? A versatile wee dude that can be hung on porches or used as a table centre. Like the swag it's a quick make, cost effective and super easy. The festive season really shouldn't be about haemorrhaging money or getting into debt. Slow down and enjoy getting creative. I can also guarantee you that not many people will have a kissing ball......💋😘

Dahlias in December......fck off!

This is a public service announcement....dahlias don't flower year round in Scotland! They're seasonal.....a warm weather flower. Gracing us with their blooms in August and September. Depending on weather, where you live in Scotland, and if your dahlias are grown under cover you might get an early flush in July extending into October.

The Florist magazine cheerfully reported that dahlias are soon to be flown from Colombia to the UK floristry market year round......so if you WANT those cafe au lait dahlias in January then you can HAVE them. But do you NEED them? And at what cost?

I would like to know how they are going to survive the journey to the UK. They sure as 💩 will be the least natural or fresh product in your bouquet. Why not embrace other seasonal flowers or foliage, seed heads, berries, or dried flowers instead?

In the words of Jane Goodall "only if we understand, will we care, will we help, only if we help, shall all be saved".
