Once a year, I dust off the club sets.
I still get asked to play bars and clubs in Aberdeen pretty regularly. I always say no. Weddings are the job now and I'm not half-hearted about that.
But May Day? That's different, it's like Mardi Gras for the north east. So yesterday I stepped back into the booth for one more disco vinyl set across Aberdeen.
Genuinely loved every second of it. But it also reminded me exactly why I made the switch.
Because there's nothing like walking into a venue knowing you're about to be part of the best night of someone's life.

Holly and Martin's wedding soundtrack could have been a night out in New York. The set was heavily influenced by their must-plays — focusing on CBGB punk rockers to Studio 54 disco heaters to New Wave. Bridging the gap — Soul, Funk, Britpop, Indie, and we got some talc on the dancefloor for a Northern Soul mini set. The music culture and heritage was rich on the night and the best moves were on display.

Mark and I go back to 2018 through our respective club and festival DJ days. His legendary All Night Passion events — I've been a guest DJ several times as we both share a love for playing vinyl when we can.
What I didn't expect was how much he'd give back to this wedding night. He was on that dancefloor from the first song to the last — pure energy, keeping the room locked in. He helped get the venue lights killed when they forgot. When the buffet opened and guests started drifting, he personally shepherded them back to the disco. Unprompted. Just because that's who he is.
