✨ An Evening of Fashion at Trinity Hall ✨

On Friday 12th June 2026, the Aberdeen Tailors Incorporation was delighted to welcome NESCol Fashion Students to Trinity Hall for their end-of-year fashion show.

The students showcased an impressive range of designs from their past year, including garments created for the Tailors Awards Scheme. 👗

It was a fantastic and successful evening, highlighting the creativity and talent of the next generation of fashion designers in the North East.

👏 Congratulations to all involved!

🪨 DOUPING - PAUL HASTINGS 🪨

A tradition that always raises a smile...☺️

Historically, the Aberdeen Shoemakers Incorporation would annually visit property and landed they owned. Still to this day, when a new member joins the Aberdeen Shoemakers Incorporation, it is custom that they are taken to one of the march stones (old boundary stones that marked the limits of the burgh) and they are "douped".

In Scots, "doup" means bottom and to welcome the new member into the trade, in a symbolic act of acceptance, the person is lifted and placed three times onto the march stone. A reminder that every Shoemaker, past and present, has taken their seat...quite literally.

A few months ago, we were delighted to welcome along the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland for a tour of Trinity Hall.

One of the visitors was Jaqueline Leith who was chairman of The Ferryhill Heritage Society in 2000 and on her visit, she spotted her signature on a certificate of architectural merit that The Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen received for the installation of the railings at our main entrance.

Jaqueline had no idea that her signature was on display here and literally written into the fabric of our hall ✍️ A lovely moment when past and present meet!

⭐️NEW MEMBER - MR IAN MURRAY⭐️

On Thursday 28th May, the Aberdeen Tailors Incorporation welcomed Mr Ian Murray as a new member of the Trade.

Mr Murray joined as an upholsterer and completed an Essay Piece to the necessary standard and was found “to be sufficient”.

Following this, Mr Murray took the oath to the Trade and signed the minute book. A reception was then held in the library, where members and their partners warmly welcomed him, along with extending a special welcome to Mrs Murray.

👏On 15th May, the Aberdeen Tailors Incorporation held another well-attended and enjoyable quiz night, with Boxmaster Alan Moir taking on the role of compère and quizmaster for the evening.

During the event, the Trade organised both a summer hamper prize draw and a raffle featuring a variety of generously donated prizes from members. These activities successfully raised funds to support the Awards Schemes run in partnership with North East Scotland College and Gray’s School of Art fashion students.

The money raised will help ensure the continuation of this valuable programme in the year ahead. 👏
