This Monday, October 19th at 2:00pm our NEW FREE Music & Memories session launches at St Elvan’s. Led by Christina Reeves, the sessions are open to all, and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a cuppa, chat and song. Join us, Monday afternoons fortnightly from 2:00 to 4:00pm. A brilliant day with Haggarfest 2026 🎥 Huge thanks to Rod Jenkins and Roger Barrington. Wonderful to have more members of the Haggar family with us again this year also. Thank you for supporting

In 2027 we’ll be commemorating the centenary of Fritz Lang’s dystopian classic “Metropolis” and also featuring an evening Night at the Movies concert with the renowned Pendyrus Male Choir and City of Bristol Brass Band

TODAY! Saturday, October 17th, Cynon Valley celebrates all things film, through one of our most famous residents. "Haggarfest" celebrates the life's work of Welsh film pioneer William Haggar with a FREE morning talk on Haggar's life and FREE guided walk around locations in the town related to "Our Greatest Showman" with Rod Jenkins, plus FREE afternoon screenings of a series of Haggar shorts, plus three absolute classic films - "The Beautiful Leukanida" (1912), the incredible stop motion animation "The Voice of the Nightingale" (1923) and "​The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1920), presented by Roger Barrington

Such a wonderful first Dining At Spires Cheese & W**e Night 🧀🍷 Huge thanks to our super Spires Manager Louise Russell for such a sumptuous meal, and to all who supported

it was wonderful to have Christina John of Music and Memories with us also 🎵 Christina will be offering FREE fortnightly “Music & Memories” sessions, supported by Interlink RCT from this Monday, October 19th. Specifically aimed at providing a welcoming space for those caring for relatives, and those suffering where music would be a support, the sessions are open to all, and all are welcome to attend to enjoy a cuppa, chat and song 🎤

Our next Dining at Spires event will take place in celebration of Beaujolais Day on Saturday November 21st 🇫🇷 Join us there! Tickets will be available from Monday and are in strictly limited supply. We’ll see you there!

Today we reveal our Anglynion Aberfan Angels - 144 origami angels created in memory of the 116 children and 28 adults lost, 60 years ago, in the tragedy at Aberfan

Next Wednesday, October 21st, on the anniversary of the tragedy, The Bishop of Llandaff, Bishop Mary Stallard will join us for a service which all are welcome to attend. The church choir has been reformed for the occasion to offer Choral Evensong

Next Thursday, October 22nd, we will then be joined by Avant Cymru with the theatre piece “The Silent Volunteer” and Lewis Merthyr Band, who will present three works commissioned in memory of Aberfan

The Anglynion Aberfan Angels together with an accompanying exhibition about Aberfan, are available to view, free, Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 4:00pm. For details of the service and performance, please visit our website or Ticketsource site

“Haggarfest” our annual FREE celebration of silent film and Wales & Aberdare’s own film pioneer William Haggar, returns to St Elvan’s this Saturday, October 17th

Running between 10:00 and 4:00pm, this year the festival features a FREE talk on Haggar’s life and achievements, a guided walk around locations in Aberdare significant to Haggar, FREE screenings of a number of classic Haggar films, plus the early classics The Beautiful Leukanida (1912), The Voice of the Nightingale (1923) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

This week at St Elvan's, don't miss our Dining At Spires Cheese & W**e Launch Night this Thursday, October 15th *[Attendees must book in advance]*

On Saturday we've also our FREE "Haggarfest" celebration of silent film, which this year features screenings of a number of classic films by Aberdare's own film pioneer Williams Haggar, plus the classic films The Beautiful Leukanida (1912),
The Voice of the Nightingale (1923) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

Through the week we've also our FREE exhibitions dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the tragedy at Aberfan, an accompanying exhibition on William Haggar, plus all our regular weekly sessions, including our Whistful Wednesday card games session - and more!
