A heartfelt farewell from Gwillim Florist Abercynon.

With mixed emotions, we announce that Gwillim Florist Abercynon will close its doors for the final time on Tuesday 30th June, as Lawson retires for a well-deserved break!

Since opening in 1952, our family business has had the privilege of serving the people of Abercynon and the surrounding communities for over 70 years. Through generations of customers, we have shared in life’s happiest celebrations, from weddings, anniversaries and birthdays, to offering comfort and support during times of loss.

For Lawson, this decision marks not only the closure of a business but the end of a family legacy that began with his parents Nita and Graeme, more than seven decades ago. Taking over the business and continuing the traditions, values and personal service that his parents established has been one of the greatest honours of his life.

Making the decision to retire has not been easy. Gwillim Florist has been far more than a shop - it has been a way of life, a place filled with friendships, stories, laughter and memories. We have watched families grow through generations and have been fortunate enough to become a small part of so many lives.

As we approach our final day on 30th June, Lawson and the family would like to offer their deepest and most sincere thanks to every employee, customer, friend, supplier and member of the community who has supported us throughout the years. Your loyalty, kindness and trust have enabled us to continue doing what we love for over seventy years.

While it is difficult to say goodbye, we leave with immense pride, gratitude and countless cherished memories. The support shown to our family since 1952 will never be forgotten.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives and for making Gwillim Florist such a special part of Abercynon for generations.

Yesterday was a beautiful celebration of life for my dad Graeme Gwillim 🕊 The sun was shining and the streets were lined with family and friends outside his home and the shop, thank you to everyone who made it so special 🤍 He loved his sheepdogs, so together with my sister Deidre we created this incredible floral tribute, man’s best friend, which is now on the lawn guarding his home 🐾

Graeme’s funeral will be held on Friday 14th January and we will be leaving his house in Glancynon at 1:30pm, stopping outside the shop on route to the crematorium. Due to current restrictions if you would like to pay your respects you are more than welcome to stand outside the shop on Ynysmeurig Road.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Graeme Gwillim 🤍 Graeme opened Gwillim Florist Abercynon back in 1952 with his wife Nita when they were just 22 years old.

When he was 57 he retired and passed the business to his son Lawson, who still runs the shop today.

Graeme supported the Abercynon community for many years and held numerous garden parties at his home to raise funds for local charities and organisations including Abercynon Surgery, Abercynon Male Voice Choir, The Gardening Club, Moriah Chapel and Abercynon Bowls Club to name just a few.

Graeme was a hard working husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sorely missed 🤍

Congratulations to our lovely daughter Lowri and son in law Matt, the new Mr snd Mrs Bond who got married on Monday it really was an amazing day!
