Wow, just Wow! Once upon a time, HIDDEN was just an idea of and now it's on display at the incredible Visa Pour l'Image-Perpignan festival in France! This is one of the most important photojournalism festivals in the world and animal photojournalism is making its debut on the big screen today! Both Jo and the books co-editor Keith Wilson are on-site signing books and I'm just so damn proud. 💕🥳
Working with the We Animals Media team over the past year and a half on the publication of HIDDEN has been more than an honour, it's been a dream come true. To see the impact this book is making around the world is incredible. HIDDEN is the book that needs to be seen. It's real. It's raw. It's the truth. For the last 4 years (has it really been that long ?!) I've been working with the incredible team at Animal Justice, Canada’s only national animal law advocacy organization. Their mighty team works to pass strong new animal protection laws, pushes to hold industries accountable for widespread animal suffering, and gives animals a voice in courtrooms across the country. They take constant action that ultimately enacts lasting change.
Over the years I've planned their holiday party fundraisers, galas and animal law conferences. It's been an eye-opening experience to witness their achievements over the years and plan events that bring the community, supporters and leading experts in the field together. The events are inspiring, informative and fun! It's my job to coordinate all of the event logistics, but it's my privilege to be surrounded by such amazing people advocating for change.
The Animal Justice team and I are in full planning mode for the annual Animal Law Conference, being held virtually this Oct 1-3. This year we'll hear from experts in the field of animal law and policy and learn about what's happening across North America. The goal after each conference is that attendees leave better connected, informed and inspired to continue the momentum!

Where has the time gone. Surely I’m not the only one who feels like this last year has been a blur & an assault on the spirit. Many times it’s seemed like an endless dark tunnel, but others a re-awakening of senses not long ago buried under the buzz of life.
Truthfully, social media has been the farthest from my priority list. In a place that’s so full of opinions & agendas, I seem to have lost my “voice” in all the noise. That said, although my online voice has been quiet, my purpose has never faltered. I’ve been behind the scenes backing those whose purpose aligns with mine, never losing sight of the animals & the urgency of the situation that faces them.
This journey has been a reminder of how collectively we all contribute to change. If one by one we stop speaking up, the roar will fade. If one by one we muster up all the strength we have, in a world that’s been so draining of just that, then our voices will continue to grow louder & more powerful. Without advocacy, the animals we’re fighting for don’t stand a chance.
It’s because of this advocacy that photography books like HIDDEN by We Animals Media are on doorsteps around the world, that companies like Canada Goose have stopped using fur, that hundreds of people attend Animal Justice law conferences & workshops to learn how to speak up effectively & that films like Real Fur Film are being produced as tools for change.
There is action & change happening around the world, & I’ve been reminded that ones voice can be a powerful tool to inspire compassion & change. Something I’ve always wanted to do.
So, hello long lost friends. Although I may not share as regularly as I’d like, my goal is to find my voice again & speak up for what is important to me. And that as you know, is the animals. They need me. They need you. Together, may we all find a way, small or grand, little by little, to help them & to be a part of the change so desperately needed these days.
I leave you with one of my favourite sayings from Edgar's Mission, “If we could live happy and healthy lives without harming others, why wouldn’t we?”
Here’s to rising up & once again lighting our spirits on fire. 🔥

I am beyond proud to have been a part of bringing this powerful book to life and cannot wait for the world to see it. HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene is an unflinching book of photography about our conflict with non-human animals around the globe, as depicted through the lenses of over thirty award-winning photojournalists. HIDDEN was literally made with blood, sweat and tears, from all involved, as well as each and every poor soul who lost their life at the hands of humans. Each and every one of them was an individual and all of their stories will be kept alive in this memorial. The truth of their suffering will no longer be hidden.
This historic book is a memorial, an indictment and a call to action. I urge you not to look away. It’s time for humanity to stand up and fight for what’s right and to end the cruelty inflicted on animals.
Thank you .mcarthur for trusting me with this important project. There are few words that can describe the honour I feel to have worked alongside you, the team and every dedicated and compassionate contributor. You’re all hero’s to me.
I’m so excited to move into the next chapter of HIDDEN, striving to ensure as many eyes as possible see this crucial piece of work. Today marks the start of the 2nd annual Canadian Animal Law Conference! What a journey it’s been to get here! Last year the conference was held live in Halifax, but this year we weren’t able to host a live event, so we went virtual! 🖥
Learning the ins and outs of virtual event planning was new to me, but it was such an incredible learning experience. We managed to schedule nearly 40 sessions, 90+ speakers and virtual networking opportunities for our over 450 participants! With the support of nearly 30 moderators and volunteers, this weekend we bring to life a labor of love! 💕
This annual conference is focused on animal law, with thought-provoking presentations by leading experts from around the world, including lawyers, scholars, scientists and advocates. The amount of passion and insight within the conference is astounding! 🤩
I’m eternally grateful to not only be able to do what I love, but to learn alongside such compassionate and brilliant people, all with the intention of making a difference to the lives of animals and their future. 🙏🏻

Today We Animals Media announced that the foreword for HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene will be written by none other than longtime vegan animal rights advocate, Joaquin Phoenix. He will be joining the book’s 30 award-winning photojournalists to illuminate what is – and what never again should be – the reality for these animals.
I am blown away by the outpouring of support has received for this incredible book. Everyday we are building on the book's momentum, and its reach so far has been incredible to witness. I can't begin to describe how honoured I am to be a part of HIDDEN's journey. My heart is full of hope knowing that action is being taken, across the globe, to help reveal the truth. So much love for all the contributing photojournalists who risk so much, and bear witness to the injustice and suffering most will never see. It’s time to and .

Today I am celebrating this beautiful human, .mcarthur and the entire incredible We Animals Media team. ✨
Today, launched a crowdfunding campaign for their new book HIDDEN: Animals in the Anthropocene. HIDDEN is an unflinching book of photography about our conflict with non-human animals around the globe, as depicted through the lenses of thirty award-winning photojournalists. This historic book is a memorial, an indictment, a call to action, and it invites us to (re)consider our relationship with animals.
This book will become a positive turning point in the campaign to redefine humankind’s relationship with their fellow animals. A future that consigns animal suffering to the past.
I am truly humbled to be a part of this historic project, coordinating the many logistics involved in making this book a reality, and connecting with all the dedicated and talented contributing photographers, who risk so much in order to show the world the truth. They are true hero’s to me. 🥰
This is a once in a lifetime experience, happening at a once in a lifetime point in history. Rarely has a book been more relevant than now, with the Coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc all over the globe, this book begs to propel us into a new era, with animals suffering much less at the hands of humans.
