The Palais Galliera (Musée de la mode) opens a dialogue between past and present with « 18th‑Century Fashion: A Fantasized Heritage », an exhibition that revisits the century when elegance became an art form.

Beneath layers of silk and whalebone, women of the Enlightenment invented a new language of power — one written in ribbons, lace, and meticulously sculpted silhouettes.

Far from the gilded ghosts of Versailles, the spirit of the 18th century still glimmers on today’s runways. In Dior’s sculptural tailoring, in Vivienne Westwood’s rebellious grandeur, in the quiet drama of McQueen — echoes of Rococo excess continue to shape the modern imagination.

Through garments, portraits, and rare archival pieces, the exhibition explores this enduring fascination. It reminds us that the 18th century was not just a page in history, but the blueprint of desire, spectacle, and femininity. Two centuries later, its fantasy remains intact — proof that true style transcends time.
