There is so much to the story of Carol and Mathias' wedding weekend - a true celebration of culture across continents and such a pleasure to have helped organise.

From an Argentinian Asado (grill) night with w**e tasting and Argentinian music, to ch*****ne and oysters on a catamaran around the Arcachon basin.

Followed by a vibrant Chinese evening with dancing, singing, drumming, calligraphy, Chinese street food and traditional tea ceremony.

Topped off with a simple but elegant French chateau wedding...despite the threat of rain.

I've noticed a few posts lately in wedding groups about whether suppliers are overcharging, or couples feeling short-changed. It got me thinking about my horses, of all things — bear with me.

My vet has done my horses' teeth for years, and it's always seemed to be perfectly fine. Then a specialist equine dentist came out and found things in ten minutes my vet had never caught. Neither of them did anything wrong. One just does teeth, every single day, and knows exactly where to look.

It's a bit like choosing Jimmy Choos or a pair from Vinted for your wedding day. Neither is right or wrong — the value is exactly where you place it, as long as you know what each one is actually offering you.

The most important thing is knowing which one you are actually choosing and why. It's exactly the kind of thing I help couples think through when it comes to their wedding venue in France.

One year ago today, Craig and Luke got married.

They got engaged in a forest, and that wish for a similar setting - something natural, unpolished, quietly beautiful - shaped their whole weekend.

A charming countryside venue surrounded by nature. Stone walls and fairy lights. A humanist outdoor ceremony under a tree. Three days celebrating with family and friends who'd travelled from London and Dublin.

After fourteen years and over 300 venues visited across France, the question I'm still asked most is this: There are so many options - how do you actually choose?

Most couples start with photographs. Which makes sense — they're beautiful. But photographs don't tell you about access roads, catering restrictions, or how a reception room feels when it's only half full of your guests.

They don't show you which venues have flexibility built in and which quietly don't — until you're already in love with one.

The right venue is chosen on paper, long before you set foot through the gate. You need to know what to look for, and in what order. Because falling in love with the wrong venue and finding out later is one of the most common — and most expensive — mistakes in a French wedding search.
