Here are a few pictures of the chateau and garden during the current sunny spell. We spend so many hours working that we don't take the time to appreciate the beauty of our surroundings. It's not just the sights, the scents have been exquisite too, particularly the wisteria!

At last, an update to show that the pool and surrounding area is complete. It was a huge undertaking and took much longer than originally anticipated however, we are very pleased with the result and hope our guests will be too?
Admittedly the colour of the water is not at all inviting just now, (more like an extension of the adjacent lawn,) but with the correct amount of PH, clore choc and floculant it will transform in a matter of days.

Still labouring away on the pool working towards the final result which is really starting to take shape now.
Clive, Ross and I have another little project that we are working on simultaneously. We have used some of the original pool tiles as a base for a canapé shed that we hope to put up this week. It will be much prettier than the former flimsy gazebo that threatened to take flight whenever the wind got up! It has been painted cream and I have some appropriate pictures, bunting and lights, and one or two other items to make it particularly alluring, not least because of the drinks that will be served from within.🍾🥂🍻🍷🍹
It's less than two months before our first wedding and there is still lots to do but we have taken a bit of time out to care for our close friend's beloved, elderly dog Digby. He has been my faithful companion in their absence and was determined to feature in our few episodes of Chateau DIY although he wore himself out in the process. Still, he slept well at night! Who could not love that gentle face?
Finally, I have plans for what is left of our former magnificent fir tree, time permitting....

At last the grey skies have been replaced with blue, and blue is very definitely the dominant colour currently at du Doux! Undaunted by the considerable task, the "fabulous foursome" completed the painting in a single day! All honour to Caroline, she kept pace with the men until the job was done and helped maintain morale with her energy and sense of fun. Next, and not content with all the outstanding tiling, Clive decided to turn his attention to the pool house roof and replace the corrugated asbestos with lauze tiles. Ross has been assisting him and said it is a welcome change from pressure washing!!
Meanwhile I have been working inside and out. There is a large room next to the library which, over the years, became a deposit/store room. I decided to clear it out so that our grooms and groomsmen could relax in it prior to the ceremony. Moving the furniture was hard work, but rediscovering family treasures in the form of old photos, letters, children's toys and games, and particularly school reports, was a heartwarming and amusing distraction. 😄 Also, Ross now has a dedicated space for his train layouts.
The room will need a bit of a makeover but I have some ideas that are "doable" before the season gets underway. Other than that, it's constant cleaning, gardening and planning but I have a marvellous assistant in Marie whom I am truly grateful for! Even unpleasant and arduous tasks can be fun if you have a good team with team spirit so, at Chateau du Doux we are lucky, Spring is definitely here!

Apparently I can post odd pictures as long as I don't reveal the entire transformation. So, the surrounding area is complete, ready for tiling and the walls of the pool have been sanded prior to painting, just the fibreglass to apply to the upper reaches. We desperately need a dry spell so we can progress. The painting needs to be done before the Spring really gets underway otherwise the drifting pollen and blossom become a literal sticking point!!
Ross continues to work tirelessly in spite of the rain, his current job means he can't avoid getting dirty and wet but he doesn't complain. When it's not possible to work outside we retreat to our little house not far away, where the renovations continue. Clive is currently revamping a bathroom which involved lots of fiddly tile cutting around the beams - the apéro I took him helped him successfully finish the job. ☺️

I love this photo of the silhouette of the chateau mirrored on the bonnet of this very beautiful car. A bit of a grey old day, but at least there was a break in the rain!!
Unfortunately, I can't now post many pictures of the swimming pool renovation as we are currently filming for Chateau D.I.Y once again, but I will continue to upload odd pictures that won't spoil the impact of the finished transformation. At present, the area around the pool has been concreted and we have 13 pallets of tiles ready to be laid, including the "margelles" or coping stones which border and protect the edge of the pool. All we need is a dry spell to lift our spirits and aid our progress.

I have and will always love the build up to Christmas; the general anticipation, music, decor, food (and of course wine,) provide a welcome focus away from any anxieties, and the dreary, cold evenings.
Despite going back to the UK I wanted to decorate our home prior to our departure and when we arrived in Tenterden, our hosts had done likewise. 😊
We had a wonderful couple of days enjoying the festivities, including a delicious meal in our charming local and a ride on the steam railway before we all fell foul of the flu! It could be worse, the food will keep, instead of chocolates it will be cold and flu capsules, hot water bottles and hot toddies - always a silver lining!
