When I reached Jamaica the first time 20 years ago, 2006, the very first day we went to the studio with Fadda Ken to record dubplates. Ever since I’ve been visiting his yard and sharing relaxed evenings and listening to great stories. He is one of the very few last original rocksteady legends still among us.

I appreciate his philosophy of the brotherhood among his colleagues within music. The museum at his home is not about his carreer, but about the movement of reggae he lived through. You will find pictures of John Holt, Dennis Brown, Bob Marley and many others who created this history and osced the way. 🌟

Which Bob Marley song are you going to play first today for his 81st birthday? The celebrations for the King of Reggae are starting today at his museum in Kingston, and you can follow them via YouTube and Instagram live streams. The gathering at the house starts at 2 pm Finnish time and from 2 am a concert starring Stephen Marley will be broadcasted from the Emancipation Park.

Ylihuomenna torstaina Support Jamaica 🇯🇲 -tapahtumassa Tavastialla esiintyy myös Josei yhdessä Jamaikalta vuosituhannen alussa Suomeen muuttaneen isänsä Benjin kanssa. Taustalla soittaa 8-henkinen Negus Rocketeers Band.

Benjin ja Josein keikka Storyvillen terassilla viime elokuussa sai erittäin riemastuneen vastaanoton. Heidän vokaaleita on kuultu lisäksi kotimaisen elektronisen dubiin pohjaavan Dialog yhtyeen julkaisuilla ja keikkoja on ollut niin Lappia kuin Pariisiakin myöten.

Jo lapsuudestaan alkaen laulajana esiintynyt taiteilijatar julkaisi aiemmin syksyllä VG+:n kanssa tuotetun ’Rakkauden Taa’ one drop reggae kappaleen, ja lisää vastaavaa materiaalia on vielä tulossa. Sofia on monille myös TV:stä tuttu ja hän voitti tänä syksynä ’Petolliset’ tosi TV -sarjan.
