There's plenty more of you arrived round these ends recently - welcome! I'm Vixen. I've been a selector for 15 years; focussed on reggae & dub for 12 of those years, and DJing live since 2017. After a long time building, box lifting and selecting with established and underground UK sounds, I now have my own rig and studio. Scotland's first + only fully female-powered sound 🔊
For me, dub & reggae music is the closest to having faith or religion, I'll ever get. I've always been a spiritual person; music is my personification of that. Sharing music is my calling, and my vessels for sharing are soundsystem, and radio - I also present & produce radio for the BBC. It's all about the tunes 🙏
In my personal life, the last decade or so was filled with many challenges & mountains to climb, internal and external. The power & resilience of this music is definitely what kept me sane & trodding the path. Shaka described soundsystem as a tool which can be used to promote your values, a mission which resonates deeply. My values are held in desire, to create a space within the dance where you never feel alone in the recognition of the world's injustices; simultaneously I want to make a place where all woes & worries can be left at the door for pure upliftment. I deeply believe music should be a well of resilience which you can pull from in time of need. Anytime you hear a set from me, please know that all selections are deeply considered & respected. I don't come from a city, family, or culture where dub and soundsystem naturally reside, meaning that my immersion in this sound is truly because it resonates my soul. Each track from me to you tells a tale, & is delivered with my full-force positive energy 🌟
Until I started DJing, I'd never travelled outwith Europe, never imagined I would or could. I'm honoured beyond measure that now, this pure love of music has taken me all across the globe. It's not a job I take lightly - it's my life's mission, and I'm continually proud to represent Scotland's selectors: a country critically overlooked in terms of music ❤️🔥
