The splendid Villa del Balbianello stands on a picturesque promontory overlooking Lake Como. At the end of the 18th century, the main access to the Villa was via a steep staircase overlooking the lake. To welcome guests, a motto was engraved on the floor of the portico opening onto the small harbour: "Fay ce que voudras (Do what you want)", a perfect description of the spirit of that "place of delights" where one could study and discuss letters and the arts, built by Cardinal Durini from 1787 onwards.

Для приема гостей на полу портика, выходящего на небольшую гавань, был выгравирован девиз: "Fay ce que voudras (Делай, что хочешь)", прекрасно описывающий дух этого "места наслаждений", где можно было изучать и обсуждать литературу и искусство, построенного кардиналом Дурини в 1787 году.
