Helmut Newton ( 31 October 1920 – 23 January 2004) He was a "prolific, widely imitated fashion photographer whose provocative, erotically charged black-and-white photos were a mainstay of Vogue and other publications."(New York Times,2004)
Was born in Germany, Got his first camera at age of 12. Became a student of great photographer YVA (Else Simon)- (*Who I will tell you about next time) in a age of 16.
During a war times the 18-year-old Helmut chose to seek his fortune in Singapore, but he was interned as an enemy alien and sent to Australia. He served in the Australian army from 1940 to 1945 and settled in Sydney after the war. In 1948 he married Australian model and actress June Brunell, who became his collaborator, colleague and huge support. 56 years together, until his death. He was saying:"I was lucky to have my wife as the art director, and it turned out to be quite something - a great success. I'm very proud of it." Newtons moved to London, and a year later they moved to Paris, where he found work with high-fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Marie-Claire. By the 1970s he had gained an international reputation. Age did not got away his success^ he was popular photographer on a high demand until his tragic death in a car accident, he crashed his Cadillac on Sunset Boulevard aged 83, on January 23 2004. which Karl Lagerfeld poetically described as "his last picture, taken by himself". Some will call Newton a pornographer, some one will call him a great provocateur, but one thing is for sure: Helmut Newton was an artist with a very bright and different view of the world. So different, so timeless. An inspiration to many modern photographers, and one who brought powerful sexuality, natural beauty, gender, humour and scandal to the fore regularly and with panache.⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
